Chapter Three

The first thing for next morning is to set off for the journey.

Mythic woke with a start and saw Lunar staring at him. "Argh! Don't sneak up at me like that!" He protested, flaring his wings at her. "Come on, we're late if you don't get up right now." Lunar said, jumping off him. "Ok. Let's go then." Mythic replied, yawning.

Once they got ready, Mythic and Lunar flew down to the main hall and met Eagle there. "Where are the apprentices?" Mythic asked, landing besides Lunar. "I don't know, Prince Mythic." Eagle replied politely. "Please! Call me Mythic." He stammered, shuddering at the first lion that called him that.

Eagle looked surprised but nodded. "Oh look! Here they are!" Lunar said, tossing her head at the crystal glass window. Outside, there are four lions flying they're way.

They waited until Feather opened the door.

"Oh sorry, are we late?" She asked, looking at Mythic, Lunar and Eagle, who turned their heads to look at them.

"No, no, not at all." Eagle replied, a kind flicker in his eyes. "So...we go now?" Lunar asked, bumping Feather's shoulder. Mythic had figured out that was their 'secret' message to say 'Hello'. "Yep. We go now." Feather said, flickering her eyes at the sky out the window.

Soon, Mythic was soaring in the wind with his friends, smashing clouds into dust and flying with 'birds-and-who-knows-WHAT-that-is'.

"Hey Mythic, d'you think the hyenas can see us?" Lunar asked worriedly, flapping miserably to him. Mythic shrugged. "Whatever happens, we stick together and fight." He promised. To his surprise, Lunar rolled her eyes. "I was only being dramatic!" She cried. Mythic sighed and tried to hide his smile. That was what Lunar was like: Defensive, sarcastic, funny, brave and also, Mythic's best friend. Mythic had always known that himself, was Lunar's only friend. They met while training at the age of six-months old.

It all started when Mythic was training how to defend himself with Sunset, a pale gold lioness. "Ok, all you have to do if a hyena jumps out of the bush and starts growling at you is, hiss back, make sure_" She was interrupted by another lion, who was training Lunar. But of course, Mythic didn't know that until Toucan ran to them and cried, "Attacks of the hyenas! Must send your apprentice back at once. The queen is calling all soldiers to the main hall. Take Lunar with you!" Without another word, the messenger, Toucan, fled into the village, hollering with alarm.

Mythic looked at Sunset, his eyes glittering with fear. He waited but she did not speak. Suddenly, a cub just his age limped over to them, eyes flashing.

"Cubs, go straight to the palace, ask a guard to escort you to the Royal nursery, where you will be meeting all the other cubs. Be safe and go now!" Sunset cried at the cubs. Jumping off into the air, Sunset was gone, only a shadow of her left, soaring to the lea across the village. Mythic's heart was beating loudly. Thump thump thump. The other cub's eyes were still flashing angrily as they paced down the hills, the palace.

After a while, Mythic said, "Who are you? And why are you so angry?"

The cub sniffed. "My name is Lunar. I was just practicing with Toucan and when I was about to strike my 'Self Defence', a lion came running to Toucan, and he missed my perfect jump. At least it was perfect until I glanced at him and the other lion, then I fell! And hurt my paw! Can you believe it?" Lunar hissed, narrowing her eyes.

Mythic shook his small head. "I can't. Believe it, that is."

They ran in silence for a while and Lunar suddenly asked, "Who are you anyways?" Mythic looked at her. What should I tell her? Will she be mad if she knows I'm the prince? He asked in his head. "I'm...Mythic." He said simply.
