𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗙𝗙 𝗛𝗔𝗗 𝗕𝗘𝗘𝗡 shot. The events that occurred on the tarmac where a blur to Mackenzie and Sarah. After the gun shut had rang out, the girls had been pulled back into a car by Alexander.
Frantically he drove them back to the Jones estate and escorted them upstairs and into Mackenzie's bedroom. The girls put up a good fight, yelling and kicking for a way out of his grip, but he was far to strong. When he tossed them inside the bedroom, the door slammed shut and Mackenzie heard the sound of a lock snapping keeping them in place.
"Good news for the residents of Outer Banks. Dominion Power says their underwater transmission line, which will restore power to 90% of the area, should be functional within 24 hours. And still, no arrest in the shooting death of Sheriff Susan Peterkin. The state police have issued a statement regarding a local person of interest, a juvenile from-" Sarah leaned forward and flipped the radio off with a scowl.
"He didn't do it," Mackenzie mumbled in attempt to comfort the girl. Sarah looked up at her through tear filled eyes and nodded. "Sar, we're going to get out of here."
"How?" She choked on a sob.
"I don't know, but we'll get out of here and well find them okay?" The brunette said, trying to believe her own words.
Before either of them could respond, the door slams open and Mackenzie's parents along side Ward Cameron walk into the room. Ward didn't say much as he grabbed Sarah by the arm and dragged her away, leaving the Jones alone.
"We're leaving, you don't need anything we'll get things when we land." Melanie instructed. She narrowed her eyes at her daughter and snapped, "Now."
When Mackenzie wouldn't move Alexander stepped forward and grabbed her by the wrist, yanking her to her feet and once again dragging her down the stairs into the back of there car.
The follow happen so quickly.
Twenty minutes down the road, Ward Cameron called Alexander Jones to tell him between tears and cuss words that Sarah was lost as sea. When Alexander Jones heard the news, the car came to a halt and the backdoor flew open as Mackenzie Jones bolted.
She hit the pavement with a thud and took off running towards the shoreline.
. .
"Did you find them?" Pope questioned, trying his hardest to remain calm. His eyes flickered between all the deputies anxiously.
Shoupe shook his head. "No." He couldn't help but feel beyond guilty, these kids have lost their best friends.
"So they got away." Kie asked hopefully.
"They got away right?!" Mackenzie screamed as she ran up towards the red and blue flashing lights.
The group of friends turned around instantly at her voice. JJ didn't hesitate to lunge forward and pull her into a tight hug. He was so scared something had happened to her. His heart was racing and tears started to spill down his cheeks. She had no idea what he had gone through and he just needed to know she was okay in this moment.
That one person he loved was okay.
"We, uh, we lost them." Shoupe paused as JJ let go of Mackenzie, "I'm sorry."
"You lost them?" Pope questioned. "What do you mean you lost them? Like they're gone? What are you talking about?"
"They took an open boat into a tropical depression Pope." Shoupe explained. He knew that the news would be hard for them all to hear, especially at such a young age.
Mackenzie's knees buckled as a everything started to hit her.
"So they're dead?" Kie asked the dreaded question. Nobody really wanted the answer but they needed it.
"We don't know." Shoupe answered.
Mackenzie stumbled back, all the pain and trauma of the last couple days hit her. She never got to apologize to Sarah.
"You drove them straight through the storm man! Are you kidding me?" JJ shouted, nobody missed the crack in his voice. "Come here! I'm gonna kill you! I'm gonna kill you! You bastard!" JJ shouted as he tried to hit Shoupe but the deputy pulled him back and away from the situation.
"JJ Stop!" Mackenzie started to sob uncontrollably.
"You killed him!" Pope shouted. "He didn't kill anyone and you know it." He tried his hardest to not burst into tears from how angry he was.
"We're still looking for him alright?" Shoupe attempted to reassure Pope.
Mackenzie fell to her knees sobbing, she watched as all her friends around her broke down. Mr and Mrs Carrera and Mr and Mrs Heyward showed up and Kie ran straight to her parents and Pope did his.
As everyone cried, JJ fell to the ground and wrapped his arms around Mackenzie, pulling her closer as they both uncontrollably sob.
"Sarah died thinking I hated her," She sobbed into JJ's arms.
"Stop," JJ sniffled, "They both knew they where loved."
Alexander and Melanie show up, and using there names they had the cops help pull Mackenzie away and into there car. JJ, Pope, and Kie where screaming the whole times as the Cops held them back from rescuing there friend.
Once again, JJ fell to his knees as he watched the car pull away with the one person he had inside of it.
Inside the car, Mackenzie was crying hysterically as she tried everything to open the car door again. But it was no luck.
"You," She screamed holding her father's gaze in the mirror, "are a murderer."
