The deal was set as Nathan made his way towards the girls who were silently rummaging around their room. A day has set and gone since Brecken made the agreement to stay and make Nathan swear he’d relieve the girls of staying here. Two phone calls and three escape plans is all it took for him to discover a route of escape for the girls. A safe escape that is no way could be compromised. Not even by his brother. Surely he’d make sure the girls would be able to leave without a worry and assure his love brecken that he indeed kept his part of the deal. The thought of having her all to himself and making sure she was safe by his side brought a warm sensation to the pits of his deepest heart. Yet he still felt the pang of regret and disgust of himself for keeping Brecken here and not letting her free. But leverage was the only option he could possible conclude to he knew it had to be fate. As he flipped his phone open and dialed the all to familiar number of his trusty friend he quietly unlocked the girls door and stepped inside without hesitation.
Nothing to a big extant had changed since he was last in this lofty room. Brecken still stayed planted to the bed looking as worn as possible. The only difference being she was now in a tight tank top and jeans. Her hair still sprawled around her shoulder and face still swollen in pain. The girls were seated around her on the bed and didn’t seem to notice his quiet entrance as they worried about Brecken who tried to reassure them with a fooled smile. Only he knew she had a real reason to smile once he stepped in the room. She to seemed to pick up on that vibe. Her eyes quickly shifted to where he stood at the door. He gave her a curt nod of reassurance before speaking into the now sounded phone.
“ Ready to transport?” he asked lowly being carefully aware of the passing bodies in the hallway.
“ All ready Nate.” Vince retorted back before cutting the line and any connection they had ever spoken.
Nate, now full of confidence in his plan stepped forward and took Brecken’s hand that was clutching her ribs, which he was almost positive had been broken. He leant down and kissed her soft yet highly sensitive forehead before whispering softly into her perked ears.
“ Lets get them out of here.”
Her eyes lit up and the pain she was feeling was instantly forgotten. She sat herself up slowly with the help of Nate before sitting fully up and swiveling her legs to the side of the bed with less ease. The girls whimpered when they heard the loud cracking of Brecken’s body and the hitching of her shirt revealing her battered back they so greatly wished to forget. Brecken pushed the thoughts of what they might of saw to the back of her mind to wallow about later. If she ever had to pick between the girls and herself in this situation she’d always pick herself to be the center of the brutal reality. She’d always pick them over her. They would always be her priority to keep safe until the day she died and dammit she’d make sure that vow stayed true. With one last burst of energy and the little remainder in her body she lurched her body forward and eased onto the hard wood floor. Her body burned in disagreement and protested with itching pain. Nate noticed the tense tightness her body was holding itself and instantly wrapped his arm around her waist only to pull it back when she whimpered in pain and went sinking to the floor.
“ God! I’m so sorry. Oh Jesus Christ baby I’m so sorry.” He consulted as he to sunk to the floor and cradled her to his aching chest.
“ Just give me a second. I’m fine.” Brecken said with determined strength and assurance to everyone but herself. She bit her tongue to the point of metallic blood slipped out and shoved aside all thoughts except for one. Jason. She pictured herself running full speed into his arms. Her hair flowing freely in the wind with radiating beams of sun hitting her evenly tanned skin. Him grinning widely by their favorite oak tree, their initials craved into the bark. So many summers they spent under that tree feeling secure and safe in each others arms. So many tears were shed there, when Breckens parents were murdered. The denial of the situation she refused to share with Jason in fear that he to might be feeling that pain. Pain was the only thing she refused to inflict on anyone else. Thinking of the happy times she spent with Jason she stood up on wobbly legs and forgot about the truth of her body and acted like she hadn’t just gotten the shit kicked out of her. She stretched forward and backwards and started to attempt high knees like an Olympian. She only got so far before the pain was back but she was focused at the job on hand. Mission get girls out. She turned and looked at the oh so astounded Nathan.
“ Lets do this.” She growled before staring at the girls she wished the best of luck.
“ Brecken what the hells going on?” Rece demanded in her fierce voice. The voice that sent Brecken running for safety every time it made an appearance.
“ You guys are getting out of here.”
“ What do you mean you guys? You are too!” Rece all but yelled before Nathan swatted his hand over her mouth and gave her a stern look. One that clearly stated ‘Shut the hell up and keep your voice down’.
“ Brecken we need you to come with us! Your are sister! Our best friend! We’re not leaving without you!” Kendyll cried as she stepped forward. Betrayal seeped into the skin of the girls.
“ How could you be so selfish and let everyone else go?!” Grace yelled not caring if a damn rapist heard her or not. “ How could you leave us like that? You aren’t even considering what this would do to us!” she screamed.
Brecken stared at Grace with understanding compassion. She knew they might feel betrayed that she’d stay behind and depriving them of their best friend. Their sister. But they would also be gaining so much by leaving this nightmare. And she knew one day they’d understand her request of them getting out and her staying for their sake.
“ Perhaps it is selfish of me. But im willing to have you guys hate me for the rest of your life than you guys end up here for the remainder of your life. As long or short lived they maybe be.” Brecken spoke in an emotionless empty voice as she headed towards the non bolted door.
“ We wont let you!” Rece growled from behind her.
“ Unfortunately Rece.” She turned around and gave her a stern cold look. “ It’s not your choice.” With that she gave all the girls one last look before nodding at the entirely silent Nate whom gathered the girls and lead them towards the ajar door.
“ Wait.” Kendyll cried as she flung her weightless body around Brecken’s breaking one and sobbed into her shoulder. “ I love you brecs, and I’d never hate you. Even if your doing the wrong thing.” She cried before squeezing the breath out of her battered body and stepped aside. Grace too flung herself around Brecken and let silent tears wash the remaining blood off her shoulder.
“ Thank you!” She whispered before kissing Brekens’ forehead and whispering a silent ‘ I love you’.
The struggle to keep the tears at bay ate Brecken’s insides alive as she watched them say their final goodbyes. No help was coming. She knew by now all hope of her personally getting saved was no where in the near future but that fate had soon set in as she watched the people she truly cared about walk out of her life. Forever. The final goodbye would be by far the most intense and more heart shattering.
“ Your being reckless Brecks.” Rece choked. Tears slipped from both girls eyes like waterfalls of sadness. Possible regret. Not regret of the situation. No regrets of them meeting. But regret that they knew this, would be the end.
“ It for the best re. Take care of the girls for me?” Breck begs as bile rose in her throat. Rece nodded in loyalty. “ Tell Jason that I love him and Im sorry. Can you do that for me?” Brecken begged as her silent tears turned in a full on sob. Her heart was leaving with Rece.
“ I will. He’ll understand.” Rece assured as her grabbed her best friend into their final hug. “ I promise” she whispered.
“ We need to move now.” Nate’s rough voice broke their last connection. Rece stepped back and gave Brecken’s hand one last squeeze of compassion before stepping back and leaving the room with Nathan trailing behind. Before he closed the door he kissed Brecken’s tears away.
“ Im sorry it couldn’t be different.” He whispered. The door snapped Brecken’s sanity as she crumbled to the floor in a heart aching sob. The end of her life meaning was walking away almost scratch free and not only was the cry a cry of relief and thankfulness but her wall of sadness came trembling down full force.
