Detective Lauren Reid's Apartment, Chicago Illinois
Lauren sat on a bar stool at the island in her kitchen having a glass of cheap white wine before she called her brother back who probably had a million questions to ask her and she wasn't looking forward to it. It didn't take long for the brunette to finish the glass of wine before she took a deep sigh and pulled her phone out.
Lauren dialed Spencer's familiar number which rang twice before he answered, "I was beginning to think you weren't going to call," Spencer said through the line as the brunette took a sip of her wine again. "I was wrapping up a case when you called," Lauren told him, "So where are you working?" her brother asked. "Chicago," she replied.
"Chicago? You hate the cold," Spencer stated. "It's not so bad, 6 months of the year," she said with a light laugh referring to how cold the fall, winter, and spring were here. "Why'd you resign?" Spencer asked her. "I already told you I wanted to change things up," Lauren said before drinking the rest of the wine in her glass again.
Lauren heard Spencer sigh through the line, "Why didn't you tell me? I thought we told each other everything," her brother said. "I didn't know how to tell you I guess, I'm sorry Spence," Lauren said. "Your doing okay though?" Spencer asked after a moment of silence, "Living the dream as always," she replied using the same line she had since they were teenagers. "Maybe sometime I'll make a trip over the weekend and come visit you Chicago's only 739. 8 miles away from Virginia," Spencer said. "That would be great, it's been way too long since I've seen my twin," she replied. "Almost a year," Spencer added, "Again way too long, I'm gonna head to bed I gonna be up for work early in the morning but I'll message you?" Lauren asked. "Alright," Spencer said before she hung up the phone.
Lauren went to pour herself another glass when she decided she wanted something a little stronger than wine. The brunette walked over to the front door and put on her high heel boots before she left the apartment and started walking a block over towards Molly's a local firefighter bar most of the first responders hang out at after shift.
Molly's Bar, Chicago Illinois
The walk didn't take longer than 15 minutes before Lauren pulled the heavy wooden door to the bar open before she walked inside the small crowded bar. The brunette scanned the bar noticing most of the intelligence unit sitting at a table at the back of the bar. Lauren walked over to the bar ordering 2 shots of tequila before she took them both over to the table setting one of the shots in front of Halstead causing him to look up at her.
"I thought you couldn't make it tonight?" Jay said a bit surprised, "Well it's the least I can do since you prevented me from eating a bullet earlier," she said looking at Jay. "Thanks for having my back," Lauren added as Jay picked up his shot clinking it against hers before they downed the clear liquid. "Always," the detective said as Lauren pulled a chair from another table so she could sit at the table with her team.
The group sat around hanging out for a bit before everyone slowly started heading home for the night since they all had to be back at the district first thing in the morning. Lauren took an uber home heading to bed instantly.

After what felt like minutes the brunette awoke to the sound of her phone ringing from the table next to her. Lauren groaned sitting up to answer the call noticing it was still dark outside. "Hello?" she said into the phone still half asleep. "Hey, sorry to call you but Voight caught something he needs us down at the scene," Jay's voice said through the line.
Lauren pushed the blankets off her body standing up to flip the light on in the room instantly blinding her. "I'm up," Lauren muttered scrambling around the room to get dressed, "Want me to pick you up, and we can head over to the scene together?" Halstead asked her through the line. "Please and could you grab coffee?" she asked still feeling buzzed from the wine and tequila they had drank 2 hours before.
Jay laughed, "Went a little too hard?" he asked her. "Shut up, I'll meet you outside," Lauren told him before she hung up the phone and pulled her boots on and placed her gun and badge on her hip before she walked out of her room taking her phone and keys with her.
Lauren locked her apartment and took 6 flights of stairs down to the lobby and out of the apartment building where Jay's pickup truck was waiting for her. The brunette walked over climbing in the cab of the truck only to have Jay hand her a coffee. "Here you go cranky pants," the detective said as Lauren took the coffee and they took off towards the waterfront.
Navy Pier Waterfront, Chicago Illinois
Lauren drank her coffee without a word as the warm caffeinated beverage slowly woke her up. Jay's truck pulled up to the waterfront where half a dozen cop cars were with lights flashing, the crime scene unit was already on the scene along with most of intelligence other than Lauren and Jay who just arrived walking over to where Dawson and Lindsay were.
"What do we got?" Jay asked them as we walked over, "It's a weird one," Lindsay said as her and Dawson lead Jay and Lauren over to where Ruzek, Burgess, and Voight were standing by a corpse in a box in front of Navy Pier. Lauren put on a pair of gloves as Jay held her coffee for her as she walked over to the wooden box. "It's like he put her on display," Lauren said looking at the dead brunette in the box.
Lauren noticed bruising around her wrists, "She has ligature marks on her wrists and ankles... Whoa," the detective noticed the dead woman's shoulder. "What is it, Reid?" Dawson asked, "It looks like her shoulder was dislocated look," she pointed out as she walked back over to her partner taking her gloves off.
Lauren took her coffee back from Jay instantly taking a sip of the hot bean juice. "How does someone's shoulder dislocate like that?" she asked more herself as Jay and Lauren climbed back in his truck to head back to the district to see if they could get an ID on the Jane Doe they found on display at Navy Pier.
