chapter 11: Vanity

Tamika POV

The bands look like them ready to leave now because a sound start play...

"Young people segment start." Pinky shout.

Now a days dead yard have two segment.. the traditional one and then young people time.

Pinky grab hold to my hand and I drop the sorrel beer I was drinking. I was about to say something when I realized she was loosing balance because she's drunk.

"Watch ya... Watch de idiot!" Latty shout on top of her voice.

Pinky stared laughing uncontrollably and I couldn't help but laugh as well. Bike back by Charley blacks starts playing and pinky start dance while Latty hype her up.

Dem no fraid she pop har neck?

I turned around when I feel a tap on my shoulder, It's Josh.

"Yuh nu wa come out a the noise?" He asked me in my ears.

I nod yes then told Latty I'll be back.. she replied with a simple nod of the head.

I walk behind josh while he hold my hand pulling me along the way..

We reach to a bench under a huge Neem tree and take a seat. The sound of the speaker is still high but it's low enough.

"So why you bring me up here?" I asked

"Did just wa talk to yuh.. Mi know yuh na come back Dem place ya Fi a while."

"No.. I think I'm going to start visiting more often.. I live close to here so why not just visit my dad Regular Right."

I can tell he's pleased by my response because the smile on his face got wider.. "so why ya skin out your peas soup so." I giggled

"Nothing."

"Mi a think right.. even tho yuh claim say ya go deh ya often a bet yuh na go hail mi." He says

"Come on of course I'm going to"..

"Good.. so tell me what you been up to no."

I started talking about everything I can remember that happened from I left the community to now..  but it seems like his story is way more interesting than mine.

"Yeah.. I recently got my bachelor's degree in exercise science at UWI.. that was the hardest three years of my life.. but mi pull through.. now I'm looking to be an athlete trainer."

"That's really good.. congrats." I smile. I wanted to hug him but I thought it would've been too much.

"No sa Joshua you mek mi feel like mi na do nothing with mi life." I joked

"No babes a no so it go.. mi juss did wa mek yuh know wa gwan since as you mek mi know wa gwan." He says nudging me.

I laughed while we continued to talk a little longer until Jermaine find we.

"Yuh cya answer yuh phone Tami ?" He sounds breathless.

I feel for the phone in my pocket then try to turn it on..

"Look like it dead." I say showing him the black screen.

"My gosh man.. daddy say him wa go home ya now." He says turning to leave. 

I nod then get up and so did Josh. Before Jermaine walked off him dab josh.. I stay behind a little to tell him later.

"Alright.. exchange numbers?" Josh asks

"Yeah.." I give him my number then him ring it and I saved his.. we say our goodbyes then I quickly catch up with Jermaine.

We reach the car and dad is waiting along with pinky and Latty.
