When they walked in, I let out a long breath. I didn't know how to handle this type of stuff. "What happened?" Max asked. I shook my head.
"He opened the door a crack and made noises, I thought someone was tryna scare me. Then I went out and he looked dead. I ended up having to gag him and he told me he thinks he overdid it, whatever 'it' was. He didn't specify," I explained. Ruby was pulled from me and put back into a normal seated position. Scott lightly slapped him in the face to wake him up and his eyes slowly opened halfway.
"Oddy, come on, man," Scott said. I suddenly felt myself being pulled up from beside Ruby. Before I knew it, I was outside and the door to the bus was closed.
"I'm so sorry you had to do that," Max said. I shrugged. "Even if you didn't like him the way you do, you guys are really close. If something had happened..."
I looked away from him. "Well, it wasn't fun. But I tried not to think about the worst possible outcome."
"That's what's great about you. You always try to stay positive in bad situations like that," he said. I looked back at him.
"Yeah... You wanna know something really stupid I did?"
"Oh god, what?"
"I confessed to him."
"No way. You can't prank me in this situation, Vivi." Mocking disappointment, Max crossed his arms and shook his head.
"I'm not lying. I was scared he'd die or something so I just said it. I think he was sleeping though." I said, sitting on the curb.
Max crouched down next to me, a serious look in his eyes. "Did you try to wake him up by kissing him like Sleeping Beauty?"
My sullen expression soon changed into a scrunched one. Laughing, I replied, "No, weirdo. You really have to joke right now?"
He shrugged and stood up. "I mean, you had the opportunity. That's on you that you didn't take it."
"Coming from the man who was talking about Me Too last night."
"I mean, you're a young, attractive female. No one will cancel you."
I stood and rolled my eyes. "Thanks, Max. Can we go back inside?"
"I figured you'd be less stressed out here, but if you wanna go inside, we can."
"Cool," I said, and we walked back into the bus. To my confusion, Ruby wasn't on the couch anymore. "Everything okay?"
"Put Oddy to bed, he should be fine. Good thing we don't have a show tonight, he would not be able to perform," Scott answered. I walked over and sat next to him. "He asked for you, you know."
"What?" I looked over at him in surprise.
"I had to wake him up, you know, make sure he's okay. Once he got in his bunk, he asked where you were. We told him you went outside," he looked into my eyes, proving his words true.
"Was he mad?"
"No. He told me to tell you he loves you, and then he passed out."
My heart skipped a beat, even though I knew he meant as a friend. "I was so fucking worried."
"You did good, baby. I'm glad you were here. Thanks for helpin' him out," he said. I smiled and grabbed my phone from beside me. "I gotta get outta here and get Kev an' Germ back. Their dumb asses dunno how to walk two blocks, 'parently."
