Emma opened her eyes to see that she was in a white medium sized room.
She found that she was covered with blankets and a tube connected to her wrist. She blinked twice before noticing her friends sitting in the corner of the room, sleeping. It was too silent in the room so Emma groaned, trying to move her legs which felt stiff like floorboards.
At that same moment, however, Tracy yawned and stretched, and then saw that her friend was awake.
"Oh my God! Emma! Harry wake up! Emma's awake!" she cried, nudging Harry beside her.
He groaned and asked: "What? What's going on-?" But when he saw Emma, he paused.
"Emma!" he said, and jumped out of his seat to join her next to the bed, Tracy right behind him.
"Oh my God, Emma. Are you alright? How are you feeling?" he asked, worriedly.
Emma gazed into his eyes, and then Tracy's, before clearing her throat to say: "What happened?"
Tracy stood beside Harry, who was crouching next to Emma, and put a hand on his shoulder.
"After that strange green substance cart disappeared, we went to the laboratory's cafeteria to drink some soda to celebrate graduating college. But when you drank your soda you had a pretty bad reaction to it. You were coughing out blood, choking on your own saliva and gagging on it too, and then you fell on the floor and started screaming before you finally fainted. We think that someone put something in your drink to make you sick." Tracy explained, a sorrowful expression on her face.
Suddenly, Emma realized that her friend was right, that she was sick.
Emma was very tired, her entire body hurt, her mind felt like it was on the edge of shutting down, and her heartbeat was unnaturally beating faster than normal. She was sweating so much, the pillow her head was resting on was already wet. She felt like asking one of them to check if she had a fever, because she didn't know how much longer she would feel like this.
All of a sudden, a lady wearing a nurse's outfit walked into the room carrying a notepad and smiled at the three of them. Her gaze mingled a little bit longer on Emma before looking at Tracy and Harry.
"I'm very sorry to have to ask this of you, dearies. But some investigators are here and they want to ask you some questions. If that's alright with you, of course." she said, still smiling.
Tracy and Harry exchanged looks before asking the lady if they will be able to see Emma again today.
"Yes, of course you will be able to. After all, she's been here all night. Come now, we don't want to keep them waiting." the nurse said, opening the door wide enough for the teenagers to walk through.
Before they left, Emma quietly called out to Tracy for her to sit beside her.
"You're not going to leave me, are you?" she whispered, her eyes pleading.
Tracy looked longingly at her friend and shook her head.
"No, of course I won't. We'll be back, I promise." she said, then left the room along with Harry and the nurse, leaving Emma all alone in the room.
***
Tracy and Harry went with the nurse to find themselves in an elevator, which went down a few floors before coming to a stop, and opening its doors to reveal a long hallway made out of concrete, with many doors leading to rooms on the other side of them.
