Emma was always a smart and nice girl.

She looked a lot like her father, Dr. Henry Jekyll, and made everyone around her laugh and enjoy her company.

That's how it always was with Emma.

During her many years of school and studies, Emma succeeded in every class; she was the top student. She never minded being smiled at, being told that she was a star, being congratulated after every award she won each year in all the subjects, and so on.

Anybody can think that Emma was the perfect young adult, someone to look up to, someone to admire.

But perhaps she wasn't as nice, thoughtful or empathetic as you might think.

After all, everyone has an inner monster; and some of them are just waiting to come out at the right moment and ruin the perfect life you thought you would always have.

Out of all the subjects, Emma loved gym the most.

She got high enough marks to pass the course each semester, and really liked the fact that her gym teacher made her do flips on uneven bars, somersaults on mats and cartwheels on the hardwood floor.

Emma was an athletic girl, who played different sports every summer, and always enjoyed being active, even when she didn't have to be.

"Nine... ten. Phew, all done. That was probably the only true workout I've done in a long time." Emma's best friend Tracy Enfield said, releasing the bar above her head and landed on the floor with a loud thump.

"Well done, Tracy. Now let's see if you can do an extra twenty-five." their gym teacher Mr. Stuart said, going around them and seeing Tracy's red face.

"I can't, Coach. I'm too tired." Tracy said, exaggeratingly, putting the back of her hand to her forehead.

Although she was trying to act like she was exaggerating, Tracy's damp wet forehead and greasy black hair proved more than what she was telling them. Mr. Stuart sighed and shook his head, motioning to Emma, who was standing next to Tracy while stretching her legs.

"Look at your friend here. She's been doing much more than you and she didn't even break a sweat. She did fifty-five pull-ups in two minutes, and you did only ten in thirty. So shut your wormhole and get to it. I don't want to hear you whining anymore." Mr. Stuart said, and then walked towards another group.

"I didn't want him to compare me to you, Tracy. I'm sorry." Emma apologized.

Tracy was bent over, trying to reach her toes, but after hearing her friend apologize to her, she straightened to stand at her full height and faced Emma. She noticed her friend's hazel hair was stringier than usual today, maybe because of all the workouts she's been doing this past week to stay in shape for the summer.

"No, don't apologize. You don't need to. I get what he was trying to say; I mean, I was thinking of working out this summer. I could probably steal Travon's bike and do an hour or two workout." she said.

Emma laughed, shaking her head.

Tracy frowned.

"What's wrong?" She paused. "Is it something I said?"

Her friend sat down on the bench behind her and sighed.

"I'm just nervous for my speech tonight. It's more like a presentation, really, but still. I've never done anything like it before and I'm nervous about it." she admitted.
