Two days earlier____________

"So I will be able to drive next year?"
"Yes. But there is still one condition. If you want to join us, you need to give it everything untile the end of the season. I will try to convince him, but your results should speak for themselves."
I look at the man in front of me.
"I appreciate this opportunity. Thank you."
He holds up his hand, as if he is stopping me.
"Like I said. This isn't final yet. Show us what you got. And then we will decide. You will have our answer at the end of the season."

Before the race____________

"Do you actually think he will make it?"
"I'm sure of it."
"I have to say, I'm not feeling great about this. If he is as good as you told me, he would have scored more points already."

The man (y/n) talked to before, chuckles slightly.
"Give him some time. He has to get used to the sport. It's his first season."
"Fine. We can always find a replacement."
"There is no need for that. I'm certain, that in the future, the two of them will completely dominate every single race."
The man puts his hand onto the shoulder of the other.
"Do you want them both in the same team? Or would you like it more, if they fight each other?"
"I only want to win. If the two of them will make this happen for the next years, I will do as you suggest."

Present_____________

All of us are at the edge of our seats, as we watch the end of the race. I can't believe that this happening. (Y/n) actually has a chance of getting third place.
The two cars are almost touching each other. It's as if the other driver is glued to (y/n). When they go through another corner, they are side by side. On the screen, it shows that (y/n)'s car is only ahead by a few centimeters.
Getting back onto the straight, he gets further ahead once more. But the other driver is still right behind him.
I can barely watch them racing.
I really want (y/n) to get third place. But I'm also afraid that something might happen. Even if it's the last lap of the race. What if they crash?

"Lee is still ahead, but Hamilton is getting a great exit out of turn 14! Next up is the Casio Triangle! They almost tangled with each other right here in the previous lap! What is going to happen now? Only one of them can get onto the podium today!
Lewis manages to get his nose past Lee's rear wing! He pushes him wide, as they go through the last corner! Lee has to take the long way around! But even in the wet he has incredible grip! With all his might he tries to stay ahead and also on the track! Because Hamilton is now almost pushing him off!
Will this young rookie take his first podium today? He manages to stay on the track! Without touching, the two of them come out of the last corner side by side! They give it everything until they reach the line!"
I get goosebumps, as I hear the commentator. It only takes the two cars a few seconds until they reach the line. The two of them are so close, that I'm not able to see, who is ahead.
I cross my fingers for (y/n). Hoping that he will manage to take his first podium.

"And for the first time in his Formula One career! (Y/n) takes third place at the Japanese Grand Prix! He fends off Hamilton and stays on the podium! What a great race by the Korean! Those were a couple of unbelievable last laps! And he even takes the fastest lap off the race on the last lap! What a drive!"

Tzuyu, Sana and me jump off our seats and start cheering. I can't believe he made it! Third place!
I hug Tzuyu with joy. Our maknae hugs me back, knowing what I went through during the last couple of laps.
"He made it!"
We all celebrate, until I remember the headphones. I lost them when I jumped off the couch.
Once I put them back on, I'm able to listen to the team radio again.

"And that's third place, mate!"
"Hahahaha! Thank you so much guys. This is unbelievable."
Butterflies roam through my stomach, when I hear (y/n) being this happy. I know that he will never give this up. And if it makes him happy, then I'm happy as well.
"You did an amazing job today, mate. Congratulations."
"Thanks for the support. Couldn't have done it without you."

Perspective: (y/n)

A shiver runs down my spine, as I take a peek at the people who are standing in front of the platform with the podium on it. I still can't believe I'm here. All my life I have worked to stand on an f1 podium like that.
When I'm about to go out, Perez gives me a reassuring tap on the shoulder.
At first the atmosphere in the cool down room was a little awkward. Max and Sergio didn't know me and I didn't know them. Of course I know who they are, but I never really talked to them.
I congratulated Max on his win and the two of them congratulated me on my first podium. Max complimented me by saying that even he would have been in big trouble with Hamilton so close and that I did a great job.
Finally standing in front of the crowd, I wave at them. Nayeon and the other girls aren't there. They are still in the building where they watched the race, so that no one finds out about me and Nayeon.

But when I look through the windows, I see her smiling at me brightly. This feels like it's the happiest moment of my life. I give her a quick wink, hoping that no one saw it.
When I turn around to step onto the podium, I look up. A big moving picture of me is displayed on the screens above. Once I'm standing, I watch as the two Red Bull drivers step onto the platform as well. From then on everything passes by like a blur.

I wait in anticipation, until I'm finally given my first trophy. I hold it up into the air and close my eyes. I hear the cheers coming from the crowd.
Then the champagne sprays. The three of us make each other wet with alcohol, until we are all drenched. I take a big gulp out of the bottle.
From the side of my eye, I see Max still celebrating. Although I'm having a great time, I still can't help but envy him.
First place will be mine eventually.
