Hanji's POV
What is the last thing that I remember?
Fluttering my eyes open, I saw doubles for a few seconds. Everything swirled around until those doubles became one. That dagger of pain thrust into my brain as I gained consciousness. A weird smell lingered in my nose, but it disappeared as quickly as it came. My entire body felt like lead as I tried to move around. That's when I felt something cold on my wrists, which were tied around my back.
Finally, I looked at my surroundings, finding myself tied in a chair in a dark room with a single light above me. It flickered every once in a while. Sighing deeply, I could see my breath as small wisps. Goosebumps raised on my skin as every possible outcome happened. Levi wasn't here... and I'm all alone.
I hear a door creaking open as the stairs continued to creak under someone's weight. It wasn't long until a shadow came into view. "You awake? Good." His voice froze me in place as he shuffled his way toward me. He slowly came into view, and I saw those familiar colored eyes... though it wasn't him.
I can recognize Levi's unique silver eyes anywhere, yet this isn't him. His uncle. That's the only man with Levi's eyes that comes to mind. Kenny Ackerman. Before my eyes, I could picture the copies of his documents. One of the documents I had on top of its pile was his criminal record. And in this turn of events, I could only stare at his eyes. Though I'm in the presence of the very man that Levi feared for me, this man's eyes brought me comfort. All I had to do was imagine that Levi was there...
"The hell are you staring at, girl?" Kenny raised his eyebrow, shaking his head. He reaches into his inner pocket and pulls out a knife. As if he was lightning, the knife was at my throat. Its pointy blade is carefully against my skin. "What's a girl like you snooping around? And why were you staring at me like that?"
He kept asking questions about why I was there, and I kept silent. He wanted answers, and if I told him what he wanted, he could kill me once he gets everything he wants. I hate to sound like a damsel in distress, but I'm waiting for Levi to come and rescue me.
It wasn't long until someone else came down the stairs. To my surprise, it was the waitress. "Kenny, he's looking for you."
"He? He who?"
"Your nephew." She points to me, "Same guy that she came with."
"Ah... so that's why you were staring at me..." Kenny knelt in front of me, pointing his knife at his eyes. "You thought of that poor runt of a rat when you saw these eyes, huh? But what I saw in your eyes... what was it? Comfort? Love? Do you love that runt? Does he love you? If he does..." Kenny chuckles, "It will be fun to torture him."
"Please..." I hate myself for saying that. The second those last words entered my ears, I didn't want anything to happen to him. Not him... he'll go insane if something happens to me.
"She speaks!" Kenny laughs, holding his hand out to the waitress. "Where's her phone?"
"Here."
I always kept a password on my phone, but by the looks of it, they got the password. I don't understand how... they must have hacked it. Kenny dials a number, putting it on speaker. When he faced me, he put his finger to his lips, shushing me as the phone began to ring.
"Hanji?" I hear Levi's voice coming through the phone in a mix of panic and a tingle of hope. "Hanji, where are you?"
"She's with me."
"What the hell do you want? Give her back."
"I have requests for you, runt. First... do you love her? Think carefully about what you say."
There was no hesitation when Levi said, "I do," and my heart began to pound. He could've lied, broken my heart, and everything else, but he made himself vulnerable. Why he said those words... either he's being honest or he's lying to me.
"So you would do anything for me to keep her safe? Say... letting her keep both eyes... all her fingers and toes... oh, and don't forget to keep her voice. You know how talented I am with a knife, runt. Do you love her to the point that you won't let anything happen to her?"
"I do. What the hell do you want? I want her back."
"There's a man named Joseph Weston that has hidden in your police records. Don't lie to me and say you have nothing to do with the police. I want his information. More specifically, where he's currently located. You're best and gathering intel, Levi, isn't that right? Get me a file on his location, and I'll let your precious... what should I call her? Runtette? Hurry, Levi, and I won't harm a single hair on her."
"Don't you dare, Levi!" I shouted. If it means putting someone else's life on the line, I won't allow it. "Levi, I beg you!" I screamed, but Kenny takes his call off the phone. I continued to scream to Levi, but I doubt he could hear through the phone.
Kenny spoke in a low tone, and I had to stop my screaming to hear his words. "Levi, you know that I'm true to my word. I want the information at the bar you came with your runtette by... say tomorrow at 5 pm. If I don't have what I want, I'll record every little thing that I do to her, send it to you and you will never see her again. Understand, Levi? Good."
Kenny hangs up, dropping my phone and stomping it to pieces. He turns to me, smirking with his gray eyes twinkling. This aura of fear and darkness surrounded him. On the other hand, Levi was filled with warmth and calmness. Their difference was significant...
"You don't know this, but I am true to my word. Levi knows it well. You don't know? Well, let me dumb it down. He's not as innocent as you think he is. His hands have been dirtied by blood. I think he learned his lesson to always trust me to keep my word. If Levi loves you, I'll make sure that he'll never love anything again. You're mine, Hanji. I hope Levi forgets his precious lesson... because whatever he loves, I will always take from him."
