Hanji's POV

Levi wanted me to stay in the car as he gets lunch. I was waiting for him, tapping my fingers on the car door as I watched him order our food. Then, it happened. The hair on the back of my neck raised, sending shivers throughout my body. I looked around, trying to find the prying eyes. I spotted one... and he was in the store with Levi. He was a customer with some sort of caffeine and a laptop in front of him. I wanted to wave it off as some curious person, but that look in his eyes... it's scary.

Before I knew it, Levi returns to the car with our food. "What?"

"Nothing," I quickly say, shaking my head. I turned back to the man, and he was back on his laptop. I must be imagining things.

"Okay...?" Levi raised an eyebrow before revving the engine. "Back to the office?"

"Yeah. Please do."

Levi and I discussed the case as we ate. For most people, it bothers them. To me, it doesn't bother me to discuss gory details while eating. And surprisingly, Levi was the same. We were weird people. When it comes to Moblit, as he was my old partner, he disliked the fact I talked about the case while eating. Always left me with a disgusted feeling. Others either stopped eating or tuned it out. Levi listened carefully and also added to what he thought.

"Hanji," Levi calls my name, looking at me with sorrowful eyes. "Earlier, I doubt that you were imagining things. What happened? And don't tell me it's nothing. It scared you. And the fact you decided to go with the case that involves my uncle... I need to make sure that you are safe."

I sigh, confessing that I thought I was being watched.

I was expecting to be mocked by his small and cold insults, but he was different. He was that kind of a guy. I... I liked it. He listens. Although, this doesn't make up for the cruel act he did.

"Watched, huh? Hanji, I'll take you to your apartment, but you're sleeping in mine."

"That doesn't sound very promising, Levi. Last time I stayed over."

"Yeah, yeah, I know." He sighs, shaking his head. "One thing that I've learned is that you need to rely on your gut. If you thought you were being watched, it's most likely you are. Stay with me and you'll be fine. They won't hurt you if I'm nearby."

"Why? Because you have such a close bond with your uncle?"

"Because they know I've learned some things from him. My uncle doesn't show up to deal with minor things, so it's up to his minions. And his minions know that I can defeat them with ease. Dear old uncle on the other side, not as easy."

"Interesting," I say, taking another bite from my burger. "Say that I do stay with you. How long will that be?"

"Depends. Let's be careful for now. Say... let's say a week. If nothing suspicious happens, then you can stay at your apartment. If not... we'll cross that bridge if it happens. Got it?" Levi collects his papers and tidies them up. "We'll leave in 20. Is that okay?"

I nod my head. "Fine..."

I didn't want Levi in my apartment, so I packed a suitcase of my clothes as he was waiting outside the front door. Before I left, I took one last look at my apartment. I left out a few traps to see if someone breaks in. I'm a bit crazy, but I always wanted to do something like that. Plus, I think it helps settle my overreactive brain.

A knock comes at the door as I hear Levi's voice, "Hanji, are you okay? You're not dead, right?"

"How is a corpse supposed to answer you, Levi?" I scowled, opened the door, and walked out. I locked the door and tucked the key into my pocket with a heavy sigh. I won't be coming back here for a while. I'm going to be Levi's roommate. Hopefully, I get to have bed rights. "Anyways, let's go. I'm a bit tired."

Levi rolled his shoulders, walking toward the elevators. "Double check you have everything. I'm not coming back here for something so tiny."

"You are the tiny thing that would come back here to drop me off."

"Stop with the jokes or I'll kick you to the curb."

"Might as well leave me here." I raised an eyebrow as our eyes met. "Though you wouldn't let that happen to me. You care too much for me. And besides, if you're going through all this trouble to protect me, why are you so keen to allow my deathly demise to occur?"

Levi opened his mouth and sighed as he pushed the elevator button. "Still can't over the fact you aren't the same kid."

"I could say the same thing, Levi. Well, only certain qualities."

"Shut up, okay? I'm sick and tired of you calling out my height. Why don't you call out my dick? Oh wait, you didn't complain that night, did you? I guess you know where my height went."

"Do you want to bring up that night again?"

"For god's sake- shut up."

The victory pulled a smirk on my face. I love it when I win...
