Devimon rose above the attacks aimed at him easily, and cackled maniacally. "All of you are here." he sneered. His piercing red eyes slid past me and skewered Patamon. "There you are, old friend."
Noah stumbled backwards, his eyes wide. Patamon also looked frightened. "Devimon." Patamon growled, fluttering his wings aggressively.
Everything was still. It was like Devimon and Patamon were having a staring contest.
The stillness was broken by Greymon and Kabuterimon. "Don't you touch Patamon!" Greymon roared, lunging at Devimon. Kabuterimon came down from the sky and swung all of his arms at Devimon's head.
Devimon dodged their attacks easily. He used his lanky arms to swat Kabuterimon out of the sky and kicked Greymon out of his way. "Pests," he spat. "None of you can defeat me. But Patamon.." He turned back to Patamon. "If I get rid of you.."
He lunged at Patamon, who squeaked in fear and tumbled out of the way. Devimon grabbed Noah instead. "If I can't get you, I'll kill who you're fighting for."
Patamon's eye's widened. "No!" he screeched. "Get your hands off Noah!" Patamon inhaled, sucking in enough air to expand him to almost two times his size. He shot the air stored inside of him like a missile. "Air Shot!"
Patamon's attack did nothing to Devimon, who had Noah in his fist. "Pathetic." Devimon snarled at Patamon. "Utterly useless."
"GET Y-YOUR HANDS OFF MY BROTHER!" Will screamed. "I-IKKAKUMON!"
Ikkakumon rushed forward. "Harpoon Vulcan!" The torpedo-horn shot off his head multiple times, hitting Devimon in the chest.
Devimon was only knocked back slightly. He still had Noah in his fist, squeezing harder and harder. Noah's face had started turning blue, and he struggled less. "Heh."
Noah coughed, a small trickle of blood coming out of his mouth. "Pata.. mon.. " he choked out. "Take care.. Of.. Will.. for me.."
Patamon flared out his wings. "I won't let you go! I'll make Devimon PAY!" Patamon leapt at Devimon, screeching aggressively.
Noah's Digivice exploded with light.
A flurry of white feathers surrounded Patamon. A holy light flashed over everything, blinding me. I squinted, trying to see through the light. The hurricane of feathers dispersed, flying out in every direction. One fluttered down to me, and I gently reached out to grab it. It had a shimmering rainbow quality to it.
The Digimon left in Patamon's place resembled an angel. Actually, he didn't just resemble one-he was one. He had a helmet that covered any eyes he might have, and long blond hair ran down his back. From the neck down, he was extremely muscular, and six shining wings extended from his back. He held a long, golden staff, which he had pointed at Devimon. Something deep in my mind whispered, The Holy Digimon.
"Awoken from your tomb, old friend?" Devimon whispered. "Awoken for a human?"
"I will not allow you to hurt anyone here." the Holy Digimon boomed. "You have crossed a line, harming Noah."
Devimon smirked, and threw Noah to the ground. I snapped out of my trance and leapt to break Noah's fall. Noah came crashing down on top of me, knocking the wind out of me. "Patamon.." he whispered, pushing himself off of me. "Patamon evolved.."
I glanced back up at the two Digimon, who were in a staring contest. I glanced back at the remaining Digimon, and made eye contact with Kabuterimon. Well, I looked at Kabuterimon. He was staring up at Devimon, his entire body tensed-as if he was ready to spring at him at any moment.
Suddenly, Devimon jolted forward, aiming for a blow on the Holy Digimon. "You will not come out of this alive, Angemon." he snarled.
Using his staff, Angemon blocked his attack. He spun his staff around and stabbed Devimon viciously in the chest. That was such a seamless attack. I marveled.
"You let your guard down." Angemon murmured calmly.
"What do you-" Devimon started, turning around.
Kabuterimon rammed into Devimon from behind, knocking him out of the air. "This time," Kabuterimon growled. "We'll squash you like a bug."
The rest of the Digimon were still. This is Angemon and Kabuterimon's fight. I thought. They'll jump in if necessary.
Everyone huddled together in a group, staring up at the vicious fight. All the other Digimon had devolved, glancing between themselves nervously. Kabuterimon was fighting in a way I've never seen him fight before- stabbing Devimon with the stinger he never used, mauling him with all of his arms, biting him- it was like his anger and trauma had taken over.
Suddenly, Devimon threw Kabuterimon off. He was covered in gashes that seemed to ooze data instead of blood, and he looked significantly more beaten up than he had previously. "I will not be beaten by an overgrown bug." he hissed angrily. "This is mine and Angemon's fight."
Angemon's staff disappeared. "So be it." he raised his fist, which was glowing with orange energy. "Heaven's Knuckle!"
Devimon jumped away from Angemon's first attack. "Death Claw!" his arms shot out at Angemon.
"Electro Shocker!" A bolt of electricity from Kabuterimon hit Devimon in the throat, putting him off balance and knocking him to the ground.
Devimon hit the ground, coughing. Angemon drifted to the ground next to Devimon, his attack still at the ready. "You made a mistake targeting the Digidestined." Angemon breathed.
Devimon, probably knowing that these were his final moments, smirked. "Perhaps," he mused. "My work is not done. Let's see how you fare in an unfamiliar world."
Angemon blasted Devimon through the chest with another bolt of orange energy. The hole started bleeding data. Even now, Devimon's evil smirk remained.
And then his body dissipated into data.
Angemon and Kabuterimon devolved back into Patamon and Tentomon. Patamon wobbled on his feet, then collapsed. Noah stood up. "Patamon!" he cried, scooping the little Digimon into his arms. "Patamon, are you ok?"
Patamon smiled at Noah. He reached up and brushed the blood from the corner of Noah's mouth. "I'm fine.." he murmured. His eyes brightened. "I evolved! Into Angemon!"
Everyone else stood up. "I'm so glad Devimon is gone." Black murmured.
"Me too." Jay agreed. "I don't know if I could take the anxiety of-" Jay broke off, suddenly glancing around wildly.
"What's-" I started, but realized that something was happening.
"Is it just me.." Conner brushed his hair out of his face, and stared at the ground. "Or is the world fading out?"
I realized that he was right- the sky, trees, ground below my feet- it was fading. "Uh oh." was the last thing that I heard from Tentomon, before the world seemed to flip, and I was falling.
I didn't have time to scream before I hit the ground.
Someone was shaking me, trying to awaken me. "Ace! Ace, where are we?" Tentomon's voice sounded distant, but it certainly got me up.
"Ow." I muttered, rubbing my head. I realized that a part of my horn had snapped off due to the impact.
I sat up, looking around. "Wait. This is my neighborhood in the real world." I realized, standing up. I was right where I was before I entered the Digital World.
