The next day, Naruto proudly waltzed into class to show off the amazing headband that he earned.
"It looks great on you Naruto! I'm so glad you got it." I gave Naruto a hug and patted his back approvingly. his face lit up and for the rest of the day, he had a smile on his face. Shikamaru and Kiba joked with him about how he must've stolen it. In the corner of my eye I saw Hinata watching us I waved her over so she could join our conversation.
But she politely shook her head no and covered her face with a book. A couple of seconds following the interaction, one pink-haired girl and a blondie jumped onto my back yelling:
"Y/n!" it was another one of their competitions, i couldn't tell what they were fighting over but they started glaring at each other, then trying to talk to me, then going to back to glaring at each other. i shook my head at them and just walked back to my seat and put my head down. I felt a little sick today, I don't know why exactly. But energy felt low and my nose felt stuffed. After school, I'd probably just go home and lay down. Sasuke walked in the room and I immediately felt 40 times louder. Girls crowded him and wanted all of his attention. Kiba, Naruto, and Shikamaru looked back and forth between the two of us.Still, nobody knew why we weren't friends anymore and I felt my heart sink a little.
I really did lose a good friend, didn't I?
Kiba leaned forward and placed Akamaru right next to me. And the small dog licked my hands and let me pet him."So," Kiba paused." Is something wrong?"
"No," I covered my nose as I sneezed." Just a little sick is all."
"Oh, well I was gonna ask if you wanted to hang out after school. But if you're not feeling good I could come over and take care of you?" I handed Akamaru back to Kiba and shrugged.
"I dunno. Why would you stay inside of my house when today looks like it'll be a really good day? I wouldn't want you to waste time on me like that." I could already tell Sasuke was staring at us, but I paid no attention to it. Kiba just shrugged back at me.
"I just want to take care of a friend I guess." He looked away and scratched the back of his head.
"If Y/n Is sick, as her best friend I Will take care of her," Sakura said proudly said with her hand on her chest.
"Since you're her 'best friend' you probably hang out with her all the time. I think I should take care of her." Ino interrupted hastily. The two instantly began bickering, until it was time for us to go to lunch. I went somewhere off to the side of the building, it was quiet and it felt so familiar. I assumed that this is where I spent the majority of my time during the time skip. Jelly laid down on my left, where people would come from while my food was on my right. i laid my head back on the wall that was right behind me for support. My head felt heavy and hot, I just wanted to go to sleep. I turned to grab my food, which was some potato soup Kakashi had made last night for me. It was cold but still left a warm feeling in my chest. At this point, Kakashi really did feel like a dad to me. All the pictures of the two of us in the house, and how he interacted with me. It made me feel like he really cared.
I smiled at the thought of having a Dad that actually cared. I continued to sip my soup until the mentioned man showed up right in front of me.
"AH!-" I quickly readjusted my grip on the soup and furrowed my brows." Geez, I nearly dropped my soup." He chuckled.
"I had to ask you something, but you wear drinking the soup so I thought I'd wait until you were done," Kakashi said nonchalantly.
"So you'd rather give me a heart attack rather than calmly approach me and ask the question?" Kakashi laughed at me again and shook his head.
"You're too young to have a heart attack," I couldn't see it, but I already knew he was smiling under the mask." I wanted to ask you if you wanted to be a part of my team." He continued explaining what was going on and how after lunch we'd be sent to the teams. But since I was an odd one I'd have the chance to choose what I'd prefer to do.
"I'd rather be on your team," I said quickly, I hadn't thought about it for too long. He nodded and whispered something to himself. He stood up and walked away while I continued to sip on my soup. I expected someone to walk towards me, someone. Anyone. Just because there is almost always something going on. But from the moment Kakashi left to the end of lunch, no one came to talk or bother me.
I was slightly disappointed. But I and Jelley walked back into our classroom, only to get a face full of chalk.
"Gah!-" I covered my head and coughed a bit.
"Y/n! I'm so sorry. It was all Naruto's idea! Are you okay?" Sakura quickly came up to me and started to check and see if i was ok. But i was a bit busy trying not to sneeze all over her face.
"Sakura don't try and act like you didn't help him do that-."
"ACHEW!"Sakura had turned her head when sasuke start talking, she also loosened her grip just enough for me to back up into Kakashi -who was walking into the classroom- and sneeze so loud everyone stopped talking.
I whipped my nose while Kakashi gently pushed me back into the classroom to sit down. He also explained that since i wasn't feeling too good we'd stay in the room rather than going onto the roof like he originally planned.
We went through the normal introductions, mine being very short and brief. Everyone seemed a little concerned, even sasuke. Kakashi walked me back home and decided to make some more soup. Multiple classmates came to check in on me apparently, but Kakashi told them i was being quarentined until our first mission...
That was a lie. When i got better he trained me privately. We got into an argument over it in fact. I told him i was apart of a team now and that i should be able to train with them, he only said he didn't want me to get hurt. One night, Sasuke came to visit me. I only know it was him because he snuck in to see me.
"How are you feeling?" He asked quietly.
"How'd you get in?" I questioned.
"The window was unlocked." The room went silent for a few seconds.
"I feel fine." I told him, he just nodded in reply. It was silent for the a few more minutes.
"We're going on our first real mission. Kakashi said he'd let you come back for it." I looked up at him.
"Really?" Again he just nodded. I wanted to be excited but with Sasuke, in the room, it didn't come so easily.
"Are we still friends?" Although in reality, I'm in my twenties. I felt as though I was still a child, asking another child if we still had some form of friendship. I kept my eyes on my blanket, I couldn't tell where Sasuke was looking but I knew he wasn't looking at me. I never looked back up at him, not until I heard the window open and close. And just like that, he had left me without an answer. Or maybe it was an answer. Maybe this did mark the end between the L/n and the Uchiha. I released a shakey breath and turned off my light before turning over to go back to sleep for the night.
If Sasuke called this their first real mission, I already knew what would happen.
