Drumming his fingers on the dirt ground, he huffed dramatically. He was bored out of his mind. The only sound he heard were his three siblings sloppily sucking at Mother's nipples. He had been greedily partaking in drawing out that sustenance just a day ago. Today, he felt differently, the nourishing milk no longer appealed to him. He craved something else, something more.
His body and mind longed for something more than suckling on his Mother in this tiny dark damp hole.
He's intently watched his Mother venture past the light at the end of the cramped space, time and time again. He is ready to walk through the barrier of light like his Mom does.
There's one problem, he cannot seem to gather enough courage to do it alone. Also, his Mother scruffs him in her mouth and drags him back inside when he attempts to follow her.
His siblings are.. well, they're dullards.
He has noticed a difference between himself and his Siblings and Mother.
They are too damn quiet!! They never voice their thoughts, they haven't spoken a single word. He's relentlessly tried to pry any conversation out of them. They squeak and mewl, that's it.
What does any of that mean? Is that even a language? Are they ignoring me or are their minds that simple? He's observed that his front paws are different from theirs. Their fingers are blunt and seem useless. Whereas his fingers are longer and flexible. He's discovered he can grasp, hold and move things. He is much more amazing than they are. Superior even.
He incessantly starts to poke and shove one of his brothers.
"Hey, hey hey!! I need your help. Hey! You can cease this charade and talk to me. It's not funny anymore."
He tried hopping up and down on his brother. Tugging on his brother's fur with his impressive hands. The only response given was brother burrowing further into Mother's fur and suckling even louder.Cringing, that sound grates further on his nerves.
Ready to bury this existence, he wants more.
Can I go there alone? Mother does, she always comes back in good shape. So can I, right? What is out past that veil of light? I must know, it's driving me bonkers.Squirming in restlessness, Vin couldn't ignore the urge anymore. He stood resolutely, facing the bright exit of the hole. Taking a long breath in and out, squaring his shoulders, he followed the impulse to walk past that barrier.
His life forever altered with those steps.
