Searching high and low, Vin found Barax tracks that ended at the river's edge.  All signs of the bear came to a halt at the river.
It looks like he went in for a dip.  Maybe to cool off or catch some fish.  But.. where is he now?  Did he sink to the bottom?  Get swept away?  Are there piranha or colossal  crocodiles in that water?

Gulping in fear, Vin backed away from the body of water.   The images in his head of what could kill a Grizzly bear filled him with dread.

He slumped against the trunk of a tree.  His body dropped into a sitting position, emitting a small "oof".  His ears flattened against his head.  He rubbed his nose as sniffles escaped.  The feeling of abandonment and loneliness was gripping him, filling him with despair.

A sound brought his ears back up and at attention.   The sound was pleasant and melodic.  Vin's despair was snuffed out by the enchanting noise.
Is that a symphony?  A bunch of string instruments?  There must be a concert nearby.  A concert means new companions!

After scurrying his way to the source of the sound, he was baffled to find a perfectly round rock, the size of a cantaloupe, covered in a thick fuzzy layer of, moss?
Is it moss? It's appears fluffier than moss. It doesn't smell like moss either.
He ran his fingertips on the surface of the rock.
No, this isn't moss. It's much too soft. Also too soft to be a rock. Theres still music coming out of it.

Vin nearly jumped out of skin his when the rock, yet not a rock, moved.  It was rolling towards him, revealing two wide googly looking eyes.
"Whoa whoa!  You're not a rock.  You're living.  What are you?  I've never seen any of your kind before."

The moss colored ball didn't reply.  It did switch from string instruments to an up tempo drum beat.  Vin tapped his foot to the rhythm.
"That's catchy.  Can you talk?  I don't see a mouth on you. Or a nose.  Ears.  Feet. Arms. Hands.  Just those eyes, that haven't blinked once. I'm certain that music is coming out of you.  But, how?  Where?"

With both hands, Vin picked up the green mass.
Wow, it's surprisingly light. Doesn't seem to be anything of weight inside it, as if it consists entirely of fluff.

He shook it, listening for any sound. Nothing.
He rolled it around in his hands, inspecting every surface. Other than the freaky eyes, it was basic green furry fluffball.. that rolled and released music somehow.

Vin placed it back on the ground. It immediately started rolling around his feet. Vin cringed when it rolled onto it's own eyes without closing them.
"Ouch! How do you not get dirt in your eyes? You don't have eyelids, do you?"

The ball of mystery continued is slow roll on the forest floor. Keeping close to Vin's feet and tail. An acoustic guitar melded in with its drum beat.

"Are you a boy or girl?  I don't see anything that points to either or.   I'll refer to you as a boy only as a default.  I hope I don't offend."  The green ball carried on, if it was offended, it didn't show an ounce of it.

"You'll be my companion. As long as you don't attract any baddies that could hurt me with your music. I don't think baddies like music anyway." Vin shrugged his shoulders. "You don't look like you could catch or gather food. Unless you have tricks you haven't shown me. Unfortunately, I only have 3 Silver, and haven't seen a tavern in a couple days. Our best course of action is to travel and find something or someone who can provide for us."

Vin didn't expect any rebuke or different plan of action out the harmonious ball. He watched its slow rolling.
"Are you part sloth? Can you move any faster than that? We won't get anywhere at that speed!"

It didn't switch gears. It's snail's pace didn't match the wild cadence of drums and guitar pouring out of it.

"You're gonna make me carry you, aren't you?"

Vin snapped his fingers. "I know! You need a name. Since you haven't spoken a word, you can't tell me what it is. Therefore, it is my honor and privilege to name you."

He scratched his chin and muttered unintelligibly for a bit. Until he jumped in glee. "I know! I know it! It's perfect. You're name is Giblet!"
