Once Meili was let out of the hospital, it was still easy for her to start over. She had money, she had a life, and it wasn't taken away from her, despite what she may have believed. Within her first week out, she was staying at a hotel close to the destroyed city.
Cain woke up in the hospital only a week after Meili. She was in unbearable pain and kept calling for nurses to give her pain killers.. they eventually refused to give them to her out of suspicion of a developed addiction, so she just sank in the sea of pain for a few more days. After she was eventually let out, she felt relieved that she still had plenty of money to start over in the neighbouring town. She rented herself an apartment close to a café, which is where she decided to work. She had no experience in such a job, but was surprised how much easier it was compared to her previous job in engineering. Instead of carrying heavy parts of machinery and passing out in her stuffy office, she was only carrying small trays of coffee and returning to her spacious home. She had no idea how much better a more "simple" job like this could be for her mental and physical health.
Her new boss was far more friendly and was happy to chat with her after her shift was finished, unlike Meili who would either ignore her, or show no emotion or interest during any interaction they shared. Cain sometimes wondered where Meili was or what she was up to, but she didn't really care, so it wasn't frustrating not knowing where she was.
Her apartment was small, but she loved it with all her heart. She only had a mattress laid on the floor of her room, and an esky instead of a fridge, but that didn't bother her at all. She was just glad to be free from her old, repetitive life. No more getting sick from high levels of radiation, no more passing out in her office, no more fights with coworkers, no more being a snitch, no more extreme workplace injuries, and no more of that self absorbed Miss Vang.
