It rained that afternoon, it made me think of the time Zach and I played in the rain together.
We were cuddling on my couch watching some cliché romcom when he stood up and ran out the door.
“Get your ass out here gabby!” he yelled as the rain poured down on him
“I don’t wanna get wet!” I chuckled
“come on babe please!” zach said giving me the puppy dog look.
“ugh fine! I hate you! I yelled. I ran out and jumped into his arms wrapping my legs around him
“no you don’t” he smiled at me.
“youre right, I love you.” I grinned
“I love you too” he said leaning into kiss me. Zach put me down and we started wrestling around in the rain puddles in my back yard.
“honey!” my mom said checking me back into reality. “you have a phone call” she handed me the phone smiling.
“hello?” I said into the phone.
“hey baby.” I heard through the blurred line.
“ZACH!” I screamed and started crying. “I miss you so much!”
“I miss you too, gabby.” He said “I cant really talk. I just wanted to tell you I miss you and I love you. Ill be home before you know it bye babe” the line went dead. I sat the phone on the counter. Feeling empty, crying harder. My mom put her hand on my shoulder.
“you okay?” she asked.
“how have you done that for so long. Hearing his voice for two minutes and then nothing. It brings up all these thoughts and emotions and then you are just expected to put them away.?” I said.
“It hurts, it still does. Probably always will. The empty feeling, it sucks. But you get used to it, I guess.” My mom said, I thought she was crying but I didn’t want to look up to see. I turned around and reached up to hug her.
