The next afternoon, I got up curled my and put on a tight black dress that went down to a little above my knee and had a bow around the waist. I wore the with black ballet flats. I didn’t put on much make-up there wasn’t a point. My mother and I arrived at the funeral home  and saw tons of people were already there. We got in line and walked past the casket and greeted his family.

His mom and dad both hugged me. His mom looked like she hasn’t stopped crying or slept in years. I couldn’t imagine what it would be like to lose a son. It hurts like hell to lose him and he was my boyfriend , not my own flesh and blood.

“Gabby, we want you to come over and take whatever you would like from his stuff.” His mom told me.

“thanks” I smiled and said.

“when you’re ready of course.” His dad chimed in.

“of course” I shook my head. They both hugged me again and hugged my mother. And we proceed into the room across the hall that was full of mourners wearing black. I could feel people looking at me. I was the dead boys girlfriend. I looked around when I saw a beautiful little blonde haired blue eyed girl. It was Emilie. I smiled an actual smile. She ran up to me and jumped in my arms.

“ms, gabby. Why are you crying?” she asked.

“Uhm” I looked over at my mom “a very handsome knight of mine is going to a far away land and isn’t coming back” I said.

“ don’t worry, I can protect you” she wrapped her arms tight around my neck and I started to tear up a little. I saw her mom, Amy, and some man in crutches walking up to us. They both smiled at me.

“We are very sorry for your loss,” Amy said. I put Emilie down.

“daddy, this is ms gabby. Her knight isn’t coming back.” Emilie said to the man. He smiled.

“hi, im chris” he said sticking out his hand to shake mine. “you were Zach’s girlfriend right?”

“yeah,” I answered  looking at the ground.

“he saved my life.” He said and I looked up at him. “ he pushed me out of the way, I mean I still have some injuries but I wouldn’t have survived without him. he was a good man.”

“he was,” I smiled.

“he loved you a lot. He would talk about you nonstop. About how much he missed you. And he would show off pictures of you saying how gorgeous you were trying to make all the other guys jealous.” He said and I couldn’t help but smile even harder.

“thank you for telling me that.” I said. “will you excuse me?” I started walking away. My mom followed me out into the parking lot

“where are you going?” she screamed at me

“I just want to be alone mom” I kept walking.
