[Vol. 4] Chapter 84

Because I would have to take the trial, I didn't have to take training under the empress. I was glad about it but on the other hand, I was anxious about it. Not to mention, the nervousness and worry.

The trial would happen in a week and I didn't know what would be in the cave. What kind of booby traps would be there? I was worried and scared.

I would mostly stay in my room and occasionally went to meet Rei and Noya. Now that there was no training, or no taking care of anyone, I felt a little lonely.

Although Arashi would come at night as usual but sometimes, even he failed to come since he was busy. He had been on edge since the announcement of the trial.

It was night as Arashi came. He hadn't come yesterday and laid down on the bed as soon as he entered my room. He looked a little tired.

I asked, "Where were you yesterday?"

His eyes were close as he said, "Was just taking care of some business..."

I nodded and laid down beside him as he wrapped his hands around me and pulled me toward him. Now my head was on his chest. I was a bit surprised at his sudden behaviour. Normally, he would come and we both chatted about how we spent the whole day. He would be quite but we eventually found something to discuss.

But today was different. He held me like he needed my touch. His fingers were playing with my hair as I looked at him. What happened?

However, I was still angry at him since he hadn't told me about his plan.

I asked, "Why did you got angry with me when you already had plans?"

He said, "Because I didn't want to execute the plan. You know, it is hard to do anything with that cave."

"But isn't the cave is under your supervision?" I asked as he had told me the emperor and the empress were the one who could give permission to go in there.

He looked at me and said, "My family can only give permission to enter or refrain someone from entering. Other than that they have no power over it. Not even to add or change anything inside of it."

"So, who has the power?"

"The head priest of our Wansai temple." He answered. "They could go inside and place the coin with our crest on it. Do you think, any of the citizen or soldiers are allowed there?"

I shrugged since I had no idea.

He said, "The cave is said to be our holy goddess's home so no one is allowed if they weren't from the temple or doesn't have permission from the empire. Even I can't go inside..."

"Why is no one allowed?" I asked.

It was weird. If it was a holy ground then shouldn't everyone be allowed to have blessings?

"Because we are the cause of destruction. Soldiers are especially not allowed since they fight, kill, takes what's left in battle. These are all seems as sins... So, the princesses were only allowed to take trials." He said as he looked up. It seemed like his mind was in a different direction.

"But didn't you say it is mostly to assassinate the orincesses?"

"Yes."

"Isn't that the biggest sin?"

"Yes but no one knows about it other than the emperor and the temple priests..." He said. "Yet, the emperor can't even make any decisions about it."

I gasped. "So, the empress doesn't know? Or Prince Daichi?"

"Well, my grandmother doesn't know but as for Daichi..." He looked at the ceiling and said, "I don't think that he doesn't know..."

Certainly... Because the way he wanted me to take the trial, it seemed like he knew.
