Dylan

An officer told me that they've located the blonde that I've been trying to get in contact with. I looked through the one way glass window and studied her appearance. She looked the same from the last time I saw her. The same blonde hair, light ocean blue eyes and pale skin with a narrow face, indicating that she lost a lot of weight. I walked in and smiled softly. "Hey, kid. Long time, no see."

She looks at me, emotionless, "Dylan. Been a while."

"It sure has." I sat across from her and set the file folder down. I rested my elbows on the cool steel table, "You're not in trouble if that's what you're wondering."

She was picking at her black hoodie, not meeting my eyes, "I know. I'm here because my dad was murdered."

"Exactly, how are you feeling about that?" I won't be surprised if she wasn't upset by the whole thing. She hated him with a passion. She looked at me, "Well, what am I supposed to say? The man that abused me, physically and emotionally, is dead. Gone and I won't have to worry about him hurting me no more. I honestly don't know what to feel. Sad? Happy? Sorry? I feel bad for not even crying over his death but then again, I hate him for all the pain he caused me."

"You know, I don't blame you if you don't feel anything about his death. You hated him and like you said, he hurt you for too long."

She nods, "Yea......he did."

"Off the record, how are you doing? After being released from foster care and all of that shit."

She shrugged, "Still looking for a home. So far, found nothing. Ya know, getting

a job doesn't seem like a bad idea now."

"You know, you can stay will me until you find a job."

She declined the offer, "No thanks, I don't need pity."

"I don't pity you. I want you to have shelter rather than living on the streets. Just until you find a job and a home."

She sighs, "Fine. I'll live with you for now."

"Good. Start getting used to living with other kids." Wow, that was a stupid thing to say. She's been living in a house full of orphans. I wanted to slap myself and she laughs, "Dylan, I've been living with kids for a few years now. It shouldn't be a problem. That was a dumbass move."

"Yea yea, shut your mouth." We share a laugh until the door opens and a detective peeks in, "Dylan, the boss is here to see you." I got up, "Excuse me, I have to take care of this." She nods and I walked out to see Kyle, my boss, standing by the window, looking at the girl suspiciously. "Dylan."

"Sir." I stood besides him. He looks at me, "She doesn't seem right. Something's off with her. She was way too anxious for my liking."

"She was nervous because she did not know why she was here. Everyone is like that."
