Once I arrived back, I double-checked everything to ensure I was good. I smiled once I confirmed everything and began fixing my hair a little. I needed to tell someone about this.
I touched my wrist, and my vision blurred slightly as I pulled up my contacts. "Call Alfred," I spoke. Dialing began to ring in the back of my head, and I waited for him to answer me.
As I waited for him to answer, my vision went back to normal, and I quickly worked on the device to connect to the "on-hand"
On-hand was a complicated technology placed into the wrists of people who use it. It is how I am able to call Alfred. It is like a phone, but in your body, that also connects to your brain!
On-hand can be glitchy, so connecting it to my wrist will only help if the device is destroyed by accident. It will download the blueprints for the travel device, as well as data and "mechanics."
That was another complicated thing about these "on-hand" devices. You could connect a physical device to your on-hand, but there were limits when it came if it.
It wasn't the real thing, meaning the physical device...
It was like downloading a demo version of a game. It was still the game, but there were things missing, and you couldn't fully access it.
Technology was terrific, yet complicated.
"Hello?" Alfred suddenly answered.
I was still working on connecting it and answered him back. "Hey, I don't want you to freak out, but I did it!" I spoke. I continued to work on my on-hand and noticed it started to download the data.
Time travel, with a touch of a button. It was like having a superpower. This was only to protect the data; I doubt I'll ever have to use my on-hand.
"What? Did it...as in you invented the range time travel?"
"Yes! I tested it, and it worked!"
"Wow....that is amazing...where are you now?"
He didn't seem as ecstatic as I thought he would, but it was okay. "I'm home!"
"Good! Stay there! I'll send someone to get you!"
"What? You don't want to come?"
"Ah!....well, I have a lot of things to do...stay there," he spoke. It was a serious demand, throwing me off. He was a kid and usually joked around all the time. So it was odd. "Okay..." I spoke.
Once he hung up, I waited for the on-hand to finish downloading.
I needed to make a replica of this stat!
I grabbed a small bag and began to quickly place the tools that I needed. The heart of the whole device was the quantum chip. It contained dark matter that gave the chip enough power to work. They were small and expensive, but anyone could get ahold of one.
To put it in simpler terms...it was like someone from 2020 buying a Tesla. They were high-tech and expensive, but anyone one could buy one if they had the money.
I was lucky enough to work at a place that provided a bunch for me to work on. I was in paradise...even if the company may have committed many environmental violations.

Within an hour, I heard banging on the door. That must be the people Alfred sent to get me. I quickly put my bag over my shoulder and rushed to the door.Once I opened it, the men standing there looked a bit angry. "Ummm..." I spoke.
"Are you Mr. Kirkland?" One of them asked. "Yes...did Alfred send the two of you?" I asked. However, they didn't answer me. "Give us the device, or you come with us!" The other spoke. My eyes widened, and I stepped back. "What? That's not much of an option...what if I say no to both?"
