I should have seen it coming.
The bots, the 'Cons, the Dark Energon, and the mining operation. The armor on my arm was shifting into isochadedral shapes lying flat, and when I slipped back into conciousness right after nearly fainting, Optimus and Megatron did the complete opposite.
In fact, it was the complete opposite, because while the Decepticons unleashed their fury on the side I was on, both Megatron and Optimus stumbled to their knees. The Prime's breath was staggered, while Megatron drew in sharp intakes. When I studied them closer, I thought I could see some intense energy rolling off of them—the leader of the Decepticons was a deep purple while Optimus was a heavenly shade of Energon blue. Something wasn't right, especially when the image of a figure burned at the forefront of my mind like a vision, blinding me. I cowered, nearly losing my footing, which caused the leaders from both factions to falter to the ground.
Megatron was on one knee, dark energy flowing in and out of him. Optimus put a servo over where his glowing spark would be and doubled over, groaning.
A powerful being with the embodiment of light-
The other a vessel of dark energy.
Mix the two together-
Balance. Order, Chaos, Balance.
The figure in my mind's eye was pulsing with red energy.
Someone who leans the power of the cosmos-
The power to control reality.
The figure gets closer. Clearer. The figure's name is-
"Look out!" Two hands reel my shoulders before I hear the words. Then I come crashing to the ground where a destructive ion blast shoots overhead before hitting a Vehicon.
Suddenly I remember where I am and why I'm here and why I kept seeing things. All around us was chaos, the bots clashing with the cons and vice versa. I looked to my left where the mine which was full of Dark Energon still stood intact, all of the equipment moving with the Decepticon miners operating them.
My brain works faster than my mouth as I grab Miko's hand and yank her off the floor. "Miko, what you did was a shit ton of stupid and risky," I said, as we maneuver around a vehicon's retracted arm that broke off after a failed attempt to swing at Bulkhead.
Miko was on my heel gaining speed. I could feel her shrugging through her panting breaths. "Not the first time I've done something scrap-brained and it certainly won't be the last."
We made a cut for the forest because as of now, being anywhere on the battlefield was virtually dangerous, especially with all of the strange energy I had felt just being around Optimus and Megatron. It was no doubt that Optimus represented this embodiment of light, and Megatron the inverse, but I couldn't make sense of what that meant. I mean, the correlation was there; I could clearly decipher which Cybertronian matched the energy, but when it came to something as bizarre as mixing light and dark together...
"Megatron," Optimus called out, and I could hear his voice even from several meters away. "I cannot allow you to mine an entire deposit of Dark Energon. It's corruption must be contained."
From the shadows of the mine entrance, the big M emerged, reveling in the palpable fear and concern that I felt coming from the bots, the same feeling settling in the pit of my stomach. Prime had told me about Dark Energon, that it was the polar opposite of regular Energon. But there was another thing he said. He said-
