Chapter 1

        It was a cold night in New York as Y/N headed home from the grocery store with groceries in one hand and her phone in the other. She had her face buried in her phone picking out some music to listen to on her walk to her apartment. After finding something she could jam to she put her phone in her back pocket and enjoyed the scenery on her way home. She was excited to finally live in New York after hearing people's experiences there, so she decided to move there with her brother, Xavier, when he decided to move there for college a couple months back. It took about ten minutes till she arrived at her apartment complex, she made her way up a few flights of stairs to where her and her brother were staying. She put away the groceries while greeting her brother at the dining table and began a small meal for dinner before she continued homework.

       Y/N boiled water for her and her brother's ramen and sat down scrolling on her phone. She slowly ate lost in thought while checking out what her friends were up to. She then headed to her room to finish working on her homework after doing a huge amount of dishes that have been piling up for about a week. Right as she was sitting down she heard some yelling that sounded like it was someone raging over a video game coming from next door. Y/N thought nothing of it and began on her work. The yelling continued for about five minutes and Y/N just had enough. All the yelling was making it hard for her to concentrate. She got up from her desk and started heading to her neighbors door with a calm look on her face.

Y/N' Pov

       I knocked on the tenants door to where they should hear it. I stood there in complete silence, thinking that they heard me because the noise stopped. A couple of moments went by until someone opened the door. "Hello, how may I help you?" said a girl that seemed a bit older than  me. "Hi, I'm your neighbor right next door from you. I was wondering if you could probably keep the noise down. I'm trying to catch up with school." I said nervously hoping that I didn't sound like a Karen. "Oh sure, no problem. But anyways, who might you be neighbor?" she said in a warm tone that made me feel a bit more comfortable. I straightened up my posture to where I looked more confident. "I'm Y/N, I just moved here with my brother." I responded. "Well it's nice to meet you, I'm April O'Neil." April proclaimed, putting her hand out towards my direction. I took it and we did a small handshake. "We should hang out sometime." she said as I was about to head back. I gave a slight nod, "Sure, I would love that." I said. I decided to write down my number if she ever wanted to meet up with me. "I got to go, I'll see you some other time" I said walking off.  "Bye Y/N." April said and headed back into her apartment.

       After making it back I heard the shower running as Xavier was getting clean. I then headed to my room and worked on my homework for a couple of hours until it was done. It was ridiculous for a teacher to give a new student this much work or any kid for that matter at the end of the week. It took about three hours until I finally finished and in the end I was exhausted. I went to do my nightly routine of cleaning my face and brushing my teeth before heading off to bed. As soon as my head hit my pillow I was out like a light and slept late into the day.

       I would've slept longer but then my slumber was interrupted by an annoying sounding voice. "Wake up turd. You can't sleep all day." my brother said as he was shaking me back and forth. i batted his arms away all groggily. He then left the room as i was trying to adjust to the bright sunlight that was flooding my room. After a few minutes in bed rubbing my eyes to help me adjust to the light I began to head towards the kitchen. I was surprised to see that my brother had actually cooked. There was bacon, eggs, hash browns, and toast, along with a glass of orange juice. I sat down suspiciously. "What did you do?" I asked in a suspicious tone. He walked behind me which made me tense up just in case he decided to tickle me or do any prank of some sort. "What? Can't a big brother make a delightful lunch for his little sis?" he claimed as he was pushing my chair in. The look I gave him was a dirty one along with a side glance. "No! What did you do?" I said going from a serious tone in my voice to a small giggle. He then sat down and began eating. After he took a few bites I began eating hoping that it would make him confess what he did.

We sat there in silence and I could see the sweat dripping down his face as I was staring at him while taking bites of my food. It took a bit but then he cracked under the pressure I was giving him. "Ok, I'll tell you. Just stop staring into my soul. It's creeping me out." he said, mopping the sweat off his brow. As he was collecting his thoughts and preparing to break the news to me I turned away from him and continued eating my food with a smug look across my face. "So, rent just went up and it's getting difficult to pay rent and my college loans, so I need you to get a job to help out." he answered looking guilty. "That's what you're afraid of? I don't mind at all, I've been meaning to look for one anyways." i said finishing the rest of my food on the plate and took it to the sink. "I'll go ahead and apply for some right now." I said heading back to my room patting his back for reassurance and he looked at me with a warm smile and went back to finishing his lunch.

       As I entered my room I grabbed my laptop and plopped down on my bed and began my search. I applied to a few stores and restaurants hoping that one would take me. When that was done I decided to go out for a walk to the park that was close by. I changed into some jeans and threw on a gray hoodie. I grabbed my phone and earbuds and hopped into some shoes and began heading out. "I'm going out. I'll be back soon." I yelled to Xavier as I was walking out the door. I popped in my earbuds and began searching for a song. It took a bit to get to the park but once I got there I started on the pathway the park had. It was beautiful with the leaves changing color and glided to the ground as they fell to the ground. 

       The sun began to set and that's when I decided to head back to the apartment complex. But on my way back I couldn't help but feel someone's eyes on me, so I began to pick up my speed. Every few seconds I looked over my shoulder multiple times but couldn't see anyone. But the feeling never left even though no one else was near me. I then picked up the pace to where I got into a jog. After a couple of minutes that feeling was still there and I went into a run as I began seeing the exit of the park. I then slowed my face as I got there and looked around seeing no one in sight and left the park. It took about a block to get from the park to my apartment complex, but the walk on the sidewalk didn't help with the feeling that somebody was following me. It could be anyone at that point since there was a bit more people around me.

       When I got to the building I almost ran to my apartment and slammed the door behind me. Xavier jumped and looked up from his computer when I barged in looking at me like I'm crazy while I leaned my back against the door out of breath. "You okay Y/N? You look kind of spooked." he questioned me. I tried to shake the feeling that I had and put on a brave face before looking over at him. "Yea, I'm fine. I decided to run the rest of the way back, you know. To get some energy out of me." I uttered uneasily. I then headed to my room, shutting my curtains immediately. I sat at the end of my bed trying to calm myself down, after a bit I gathered up some clean clothes and headed to the bathroom to take a warm shower to help calm my nerves. It took about half an hour until I got done. I put on my clothes and brushed my hair out and headed back into my room grabbing my laptop. As I opened it I went to my emails to see if any of the jobs accepted me but no news yet.

       After watching a few episodes from the show I was currently watching I decided to go to bed earlier than usual so I closed my laptop and got comfortable under the covers. It seemed to take forever for me to get sleepy because my mind didn't seem to want to shut off. I tossed and turned in bed and slowly drifted off to sleep.
