I repaired one of the drones today. I was able to get it running. Jordan's last location before I picked him up was in Arizona, at his lab. It's likely that Jace is still in the state. He was a sentimental child, and he believes himself in love with this Hunter animal. He'd have stayed and waited for her to come back. He has the other two with him as well.

I've set up round the clock surveillance to locate him once the drone reaches the target area. Jordan eventually told me about the little safe house the Hunters had there. He'd not have gone far.

The entry cut off and then picked up again a couple days later.

Found him. He's still there. A leader now. I knew he would be, he is just like me. His mother is there. She disgusts me. The way he acts around her, I think she disgusts him as well. So much the better.

The bitch ruined everything. She took him from me, gave him to filthy, sub humans. It will leave a stain on him, and it may never scrub out. She took what was supposed to be mine, and now he's stuck leading a bunch of weak, worthless people.

They're still looking for Kaelie. I know where she is, or where she was. Amazing how much one will talk after a long enough period spent alone with their own thoughts. Jordan has been a gold mine.

Jace leaned back, and tried to breathe deeply, but it didn't work, and he knew he needed to keep reading, he couldn't stop himself, and he needed the information.

Jace found the girl. Brought her back to Serna's headquarters. I can't get the drone in the building of course, but no one has left in days. He'll try to get her back. Jordan thinks he might succeed, but not permanently, not really.

Jordan destroyed her mind. Her emotions may come back, but they may not always be functional. She could still revert, he thinks, with major traumas or reminders.

I know his mother is the one that performed the operation. She was always self serving. She'd have done it so she could live, even just so she could see the results of one more experiment. Sick.

Kaelie will be reminded. All she needs is a little provoking, and she will return to her true self, that killing machine. Jace will see the truth, and when he finally reaches me, he will be primed to lead my men to locate Jordan's research, and his cure, and end the Hunters for good.

And then I will be there, I will be their savior, and I will be able to rebuild this sniveling population into something that actually deserves to take oxygen from the planet.

Jace read for what felt like hours, he wasn't sure of the time, he had no windows to see outside, and his eyes burned with each blink. He was on the verge of passing out, the words blurring and the letters jumbled. One more, and he clicked on another. He only read two lines before he was up, tearing apart the room for a weapon, and racing down to the cells. He didn't care how they did it, he didn't care how careful they were, they were getting out tonight, and they were going to get Kaelie.

The cure is fatal. It will kill them all.

Chapter 14

It Comes for Us All

They had walked in silence all day, until the night shrouded them in an inky darkness, and the winter clouds hid the moon and stars from sight. Kaelie didn't want to break it, didn't want to be the first to say anything, acknowledge anything, and so she waited Rick out, watching as his air puffed out in little clouds, his fists clenching and unclenching at his sides.

Her legs ached, her bad knee screamed in protest, and every step she took sent a shockwave of agony up through her leg. Her shoulders burned where the straps of the pack cut in, and her stomach felt hollow, caving in around the ever growing pit of hunger.
