The village was utterly destroyed. Houses were smashed. Trees flattened and thrown. Weapons were scattered everywhere. Wounded people were struggling. Kids crying and screaming. The second I woke up, I found myself in a makeshift hospital. I didn't consider myself too injured so I got up ad started helping heal people. My own wounds were already wrapped. I had stayed at the makeshift hospital for a while after the invasion had settled down. The doctor there sent me home to get some rest due to all the built-up adrenaline I had inside.
When I got home, my heart dropped down to my feet. The house had a huge hole running threw it. There were blood stains everywhere. I walked inside slowly, carefully observing all of the damage. I paused, a painful realization stabbing me in the chest. "Mum?" I called out. I could hear the shakiness in my own voice. "Mum? Mum? Dad? Dad!? Mum?!" I called out, sounding more and more desperate each time. I run into what was left of the sitting room and froze in my tracks. I saw them, but, it wasn't them. My mum had multiple kunai sticking out of her body and even one straight threw her heart. And my dad had a large piece of wood start sticking out of his chest. "Mummy?" I ask as tears stung my eyes. I gazed over the bodies of my parents. I couldn't feel my heart beating. I collapsed to the ground and sat there, staring wide-eyed at my parent's remains. "D-daddy?" my voice cracked. Tears burned as they slid down my face. I crawled over to them. I touched my mother's hand. I let out a whimper as it was ice cold. I looked over threw my blurry vision and touched my dad's hand, letting out a choked sob.
"N-no." I gasped. "No, no, no, no, no, no! NO!" I screamed. "Nooooooooooooo," I slammed my fists into the ground. "Please," I gasped. "Please no. Mummy. Mummy, please. Please wake up." I picked her up and cradled her body in my arms. "Mummy please wake up," I begged, pushing the hair out of her face. "Mummy," I sobbed. "Daddy please," I held his hand tightly. "Please wake up. Please don't leave me, Daddy. Please don't leave me, Mummy."
"Please wake up," I pleaded. "P-please? P-please. Y-You can't l-leave us. You can't leave us too. Please." I dipped my head as I cried out in inspiration. "I-I s-sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry for not b-being good enough. I'm sorry. S-so please, wake up. I-I promised Yūgure nii-san I would protect you a-and Sakura. I-I promised so please," I whimpered. My mother's body rolled off my lap and I choked on my tears. A shooting pain shot threw my head and I winced, reaching a hand up to hold my head.
"A-Ayame...p-pr-promise me....you'll p-protect our f-family?" A Young teenage boy said as he smiled weakly up at me with blood seeping out of his mouth.
A breath caught in my throat. "N-no. No, no. P-please I- I'm sorry. I'm sorry." I sobbed and dug my fingers into my head.
"I promise. I'll p-protect them with my life." My younger self promised.
I whimpered. My body started to shake. "M-mummy please wake up. Daddy please," I clenched my teeth. "Please d-don't leave us." I leaned over and held hugged their bodies. "W-what am I-? What a-am I s-supposed to t-tell Sakura?" My strained voice asked. "W-what am I supposed to say? W-what am I supposed to tell her?" My heart felt like it was squeezing tightly. I could feel my face heat up. "What-? H-how am we...supposed to manage o-on our own?"
I held them as I shakingly sobbed in the silence for a long while. "I'm sorry," I finally whispered, breaking the silence. My voice sounded as small as it did all those years ago. Painful memories filled my head and I sniffed. "I- I couldn't protect you." I stared blankly at the blood-stained floor as I held the hands of my parents tightly. "I swear," I said shakingly. "I will not let anything...happen to Sakura....e-ver." I breathed. "I would...rather die...than let anything happen...to her. I couldn't protect y-you and Yūgure nii-san...but I swear on my life...I will protect Sakura..." I held in my sob and gasped as I looked up at the ceiling. A tear slipped down my face.
