You had come to the conclusion that this might not actually be a dream anymore, as you run for your life away from a demon you had snagged some cash from, your hood threatening to fall off your head and your tail barely keeping inside your pants. If someone had told you years ago you would be running away from a demon because you failed at pickpocketing him you would have laughed that person out of your sight, but here you were bolting down the street cash in hand. Seriously all this for a bit of change? It was a bit much honestly. Plus the weasel looked like he had a good job anyway! Your feet hit the sidewalk with impressive speed as you wove around people like a snake.

"GET BACK HERE YOU THEIF!" you heard him yell as you slowly but surely got further and further away from him, your new monkey body had a few advantages you figured out, one was far better endurance as well as speed. Honestly, in its own way, it was a glow up though you needed new glasses the crack in your old ones had appeared in the last few weeks? Days? you didnt know anymore. But you did lose the weasel as you dipped down a side street allowing you to slow to a soft jog and catch your breath.

You almost had enough money to get a new set of shoes, the ones you had arrived in this world with starting to fray. Between this and if your next job loading freight didnt skimp out on paying you- it would land you with enough money to get the shoes and clean your old clothes, and maybe a few cans of food.

You found yourself in the old abandoned apartment building you now called home it had doors that closed and locked, you did get yourself a new door knob so you had a key and someplace to store your stuff. The best perk of your home was the lack of rent. Personally, it was the best thing ever in your mind but that says a lot about where you came from. The soreness of how you got to this world still lingered as you climbed the stairs to the floor you stayed on your tail free from your pants in the safety of your home. Unlocking the door to what would have been long ago a luxury apartment you wonder who lived here before you. They did leave a few things behind. Mostly just a dresser and bed frame plus a ratty couch. But it was homey in its own way. Not like you needed to worry about getting rained on at all now that you had this place.

You looked over everything as crummy as it would appear to others to you it was warm and welcoming even with the bugs. Honestly, now that you think of it as you relax on the couch you should really look at the other units. Maybe replace the door? It would offer better security. Or maybe you could start fixing the place just enough if anyone came poking around it looked like a run-down apartment, not an abandoned one. That would discourage people from coming around to live here with you. Maybe some traps as well? That would help too, if the scent of demon monkey didn't tip them off that this place was taken.

Rolling your neck you pulled out the wads of cash and coins you had snagged for the day with a smile. So friggen close! Then new cheap shoes for you to not need to worry about your feet anymore. It would be great. Your phone buzzed and you blinked opening it up the weak wifi signal you snagged from the neighboring building allowing you to find out. The odd job was off apparently they had found someone else to help them move the freight for free.

You frowned at that a little hurt by that and you took a deep breath. It was gonna be okay you had enough canned food to last a while. And the shoes weren't that important you can just tape up your old ones!

Yeah, that would work.

You took a deep breath to center yourself.

Yeah.

You looked at the crumpled bills, you had promised yourself you wouldn't get involved with MK and his friends but you feel like you could use a hot meal after having a job canceled. It would put you back a bit but it would be worth it.

After all, a warm meal warms the heart as your mother used to say.

Nodding you hop from your couch to put your stuff back on and head out again unaware of your shadow's odd shape
