Shuri was always in her lab. Even on days when she didn't need to work, she just liked hanging around there. It was like her safe space. The environment was familiar to her and the scent of home made her feel at peace. You always thought it was becoming a problem to get her out of the lab, and she always insisted you hangout with her inside. She only goes out when you refuse to stay, and she hates having you not around. That was also how you found out that she was in love with you.

You were taken aback when you tried to leave and she pulled you in for a kiss. It was rough, passionate, angry and full of lust. You didn't move away but stood very still at where you were. You felt your stomach burning and your thighs shivering. Definitely turned on. She was drunk in her own lab and you didn't know if she was kissing you because of her drunken state or because she was genuinely attracted to you. Your heart race as thoughts ran through your mind. Please. Please love me.

She pulled away, not looking at you and continued downing the alcohol in the bottle. She turned, clumsily walking to one of the stools and dragging it in front of the huge glass that covered the lab, looking at the beautiful view of vibranium everywhere. There were hints of purple and blue light in several equipments, some glowing brilliantly and others that go on and off. It was truly a magnificent sight. Shuri and you used to always sit here and look at it, knowing most of it was her work and that it made you really proud. Her face would usually glow and would be full of energy every time you gazed upon her staring into the view. This time, however, it was different.

Her face was gloomier, probably from the alcohol, and she lacked that wide smile she always had. You were seeing such a pessimistic version of her that you never seen much. That made you sad. You knew that one day, that smile of hers was going to fade and you would do your best to prevent it from happening so soon. Today, you realized you failed.

Your eyes welled up with tears and you could feel them about to fall out. You got closer to her and then kneeled down, wanting to comfort her. "I-I'm sorry."

She realizes the tears and sat up straight, confused and concerned. "W-why? Why are you crying?" She then bended her body from her seat to cup your face, the tears finally falling uncontrollably. "I should've been there for you more often. I'm a bad friend. I know you're upset and it's because I don't hangout with you often anymore. I've been busy with Avengers stuff, I totally forgot to check in with you. I promise, I'll ditch the Avengers job. I'll get a new one. I'll spend time with you." Were you really willing to risk your entire life for her?

It was her turn to tear up, her eyes looking upwards to prevent it from coming out. She sniffled and then gave you a weak smile. "I'm not upset about you not checking in." She paused, her breathe was shaky, like she's about to tell you something bad. "I'm...I'm in love with you. And I've loved you for a long time. I wanted to tell you, but I realized, no matter what your reply was, we could never work out. You and me, we're destined to fail. Our life work prevents us from crossing path no matter how hard we try to meet."
