The murmurs of waves hit the window just above Rosalie's head, enough to relax her as she rested in her bed. The shimmering green sheets reminded her of the serpent that represented her dorm, seeing how it caught the faint moonlight that had slipped through the water and through the slightly open window.
It was calming, always having the sound of water near her, but she couldn't sleep. A roll here to the left, a roll to the right, on her stomach, and even the odd splayed-out position she'd have back home in her own bedroom. If only the bed wasn't a twin. Feet dangled over the edge and she'd prop her head up on her pillow, glancing over to her designated dresser for this year.
Sure, it was the first night back at Hogwarts, but the Triwizard Tournament was happening again. The headmaster had announced it at dinner. Even as Rosalie thought of the speech over and over again, she could still taste the chicken and berry sauce in her mouth. A pleasant evening that had a surprise, a surprise that could put a friend of hers in danger.
"Are you awake too, Rosa?" A girl's voice asked in a bed over.
Rosalie glanced over to find the face of the voice. A blonde girl looked back at her, most of her face shades gray and blue in the lighting of the girls' dormitory. It was Heidi, a friend since their first year, the two always stuck together when they could.
"Yeah... I'm just thinking of Martyn and how he will probably enter," Rosalie responded. She'd also drop her arm off the bed to let her fingers brush over the back of her cat just below.
"The older Hufflepuff you became friends with last year?" her friend questioned in a hushed voice.
Rosalie hummed in confirmation and started to stroke the large feline below. She didn't want to be too loud, considering others of her age were most likely asleep. Another glance around the room and she'd respond to Heidi. "I don't know much about it, but I'm going to check the history books in the library tomorrow on how dangerous these games really are."
They were stopped for a reason. And while most were excited, Rosalie was someone who'd always worry. No one could even enter yet, not until the other schools arrived. It was just the announcement so far. Yet she already feared for her one friend old enough to compete. Was it irrational? Sure. But she still worried. It was something she struggled to change in her life.
"Sounds like a plan. G'night, Rosa..." Heidi mumbled through her still tired state. The blonde rolled onto her back and closed her eyes.
"Night," the brunette responded. She'd stay in her position, continuing to stroke her cat's back and trying and relax some more with him. A moment later a small meow came from the large fluffball before he hopped up into the bed and snuggled next to his owner. Rosalie's arms wrapped around him before she also aimed to drift off, purring now aiding her slumber with the waves.
Darkness enveloped her, bringing a calm and peaceful sleep. Dreamless, and feeling endless. Until the morning when the alarms would sound.
Murmuring and some shouting were enough to stir Rosalie fully awake. The room was still dim, but the candles in their silver holdings shined above them from the ceiling to illuminate the room during the day. Some of the fellow girls of her year were already up, dressing in their garments for the first day of classes.
A few more moments and she'd sit upright, pulling on the collar of her old sports shirt, displaying a local team name in a muggle world town on it. The cat next to her also moved and went to jump down onto the floor, wandering off to interact with another dorm mate's feline companion. Rosalie was fast to pick her wand up too from its spot on her dresser, flicking it in a memorized pattern of pulling out the necessities for today. Her uniform laid out on the bed by itself as she fixed her hair, brushing the tangled curls into frizzy grooming. Next came changing the pajamas for the skirt and blouse, which Rosalie didn't mind doing in front of others. Most didn't care, they all had to dress for the day anyway.
