"Learning the Cruciatus Curse really is not what I wanted to do today..." Rosalie mumbled to Heidi as they descended the stairs to the first floor. Already for most of their time with Mad-Eye Moody as their professor, all they kept learning was actual dark arts and how to defend against it. While the defense was good, Moody's constant use of an unforgivable curse in class made Rosalie feel ill.
"Agreed. I was hoping Professor Moody would do like Lupin did last year. Teach us of monsters or other dangerous things we should defend ourselves on." Heidi tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear as they descended out of the tower they were in and into the main entrance.
The two chose to go to the courtyard before dinner, considering this one had a mandatory time to be there. It was at any moment their guests would arrive, and they wanted a moment of relaxation before the chaos of getting everyone into a room. Already had they seen more tables crammed into the great hall to fit the visitors.
"What do you think will be next? Moody showing us how to defend against the Imperius Curse?" Rosalie asked, continuing their frustrated, and slightly boring, conversation.
Heidi hopped up on one of the stone window frames in the courtyard and looked at her friend. "I wouldn't be surprised. But did you see Longbottom?"
"The Gryffindor?"
Heidi nodded her head in response. "Yeah... He's been quite bothered by the professor doing the current curse. He always looks so pale and shakes like a leaf."
Rosalie pulled her robes tighter against her form and also went to prop herself up on the windowsill. "If I remember right, his parents were tortured with the curse. Cause my parents said Longbottom could've been the chosen one too and not Potter."
"Oh true, they both have wizard parents..."
The only response was a nod as the two continued to try and wind down. They'd readjust in their spots and glance out as the sun lowered even more in the west. A lot of the time was spent just relaxing, glad they were done with courses for the day, even if the last had disturbed them more than usual.
Soon a small dark speck appeared far away, seeming to turn in the sky from not turning sooner. It then began to grow in size and wings started to become visible as the dark form came closer to the castle.
Heidi shot upright as she eyed the strange thing. "What the bloody..."
"Hey!" Martyn's voice came from behind them. His hands slapped on the girls' backs before gripping their shoulders so they didn't fall. "Here to see the arrivals?"
"Is that what's coming our way?" Rosalie asked. She eyed Martyn a minute longer, seeing he was wearing the yellow and black hat she had knitted him for his birthday, which was only two days ago.
He'd confirm it before scooting closer to Rosalie as Henry came up behind. "Yup, we just got done in Divination and thought we'd try and get early seats to see them come in. What animal do you think they're riding in?" Martyn didn't ask anyone in particular, but instead just waited for a guess.
"Hippogriffs?" Heidi questioned.
"I bet it's pegasi," Henry spoke right after.
"Bet. Your next bit of Hogsmeade money if I win!" Heidi spoke.
A laugh came from Henry. "Now, if I win... All purchases next trip you have to carry for me."
"Deal!"
They'd all continue to watch together, more fellow students beginning to fill out the other windows and chase any open spot to see. Soon enough, the figure broke into multiples, all showing many beasts pulling along carriages behind them and pulling harshly to the front of the school. Blue hues continued to litter their vision as the steeds drawing the carriages also slowed down and soon were able to be identified.
