Too long had she not been in the library. To see the tall shelves, hear the roar of a fire in the nearby braziers, and feel the worn spines under her fingers. It was Rosalie's favorite place to visit when she had free time, especially if it was about large and gorgeous mythical creatures. But instead of looking at her favorite books, she was looking for anything with history relating to the Triwizard Tournament.
"Excuse me," Rosalie asked the librarian politely. She'd grab the woman's attention, although a scowl was on the librarian's face, per her usual. "Are there any books in here about the Triwizard Tournament?"
Librarian Pince looked at the girl before shifting her eyes upward to think. "Six rows down. Top shelf to the far left of that row. It is slim, but there for reading."
A smile appeared on Rosalie's face and she thanked the librarian before walking off with the destination given to her. Once out of sight, the librarian went back to organizing newer books that were just brought in for the year. She wasn't as bothered with Rosalie, finding her one of the more mindful students of the books when visiting.
The girl grabbed the ladder and rolled it over as she arrived in the sixth row. It was pushed flush against the far left of the bookshelf and secured in place before the first step was taken up. Once at the top of the ladder, the brunette glanced over the titles there, trying to find the one just on the Triwizard Tournament. After a few glances, her eyes landed on a blue leather book, a reflective silver building the text on the spine. It was it. Fresh and new, indicating it was a newer edition for historical records. She slipped it out of its spot and descended quickly to sit at one of the study desks in the same row.
The Triwizard Cup, A History was what the title read. Rosalie went to open it and read the introduction. Much like Headmaster Dumbledore said, it was a friendly competition between the European wizarding schools. It also was a way for students to intermingle and make more connections across the continent in terms of the wizarding world.
"So far so good..." She spoke to herself before reading more.
It went more in-depth about how the tournament worked, how there were three challenges, it was designed to test magical ability, intelligence, and courage, and even more challenges for the champions competing against one another. But it was after reading the monetary wins that the negatives came in. It mentioned how death was high, how dangerous the games were, and how intense they could get. It even mentioned how one survivor lost both legs.
"The Tournament was eventually discontinued, in 1790, due to the death of all three champions. There has been no offering of bringing it back due to the dangers that any Tournament-worthy task could bring."
Rosalie leaned back in her chair, her body feeling a bit chillier than it should've. She reread the line again and again, repeating it over and over in her head. After her initial shock, she'd turn to the logbook of all 125 editions of the Tournament that filled the rest of the book.
"1294 - The establishment of the Triwizard Tournament and the first edition.
Champions:
Henry Ashfellow - Hogwarts
Estienne Boidie - Beauxbatons
Pridbor Miroslav - Durmstrang"
Rosalie went through the list after, seeing what documentation came for each edition. Injuries, death, and the winner were usually the only notes taken if there were any. Sometimes one of the competitions was listed, but not often. She'd continue to shuffle through it, seeing how it fared, even noting the ages when they did appear in the documents. It was enough for her to panic.
