Moon and Isaac spent their night picking up after their father, who had once again drunk himself into unconsciousness. They laid him down on his bed after Moon changed the sheets and the blankets and the pillow sheets, turning him on his side with a trash can by the side of his bed along with an aspirin and a bottle of water.
Isaac ordered take-away for them with the money Moon had gotten from her boss for trashing that shed and they wolfed that shit down before turning in for the night. Moon had stayed up a little to count up the money in the safe in the bottom of her cabinet, making sure that her father hadn't managed to get into it.
Just when they thought that the next day wouldn't be so bad, they were being yelled at as soon as they woke up.
"Why are you two not at school yet?" Christian Lee yelled at Moon and yanked the covers off of her.
"Because it's not even gone 7," Moon said groggily as she sat up and her alarm started to ring. Her father seemed to pause and then he checked his watch.
"Regardless, I need you two out the house in 30 minutes, I've got friends coming," He said before walking out her room, leaving her door open as he went to go deliver the same message to her brother.
She ran her hands through her hair in frustration and got herself out of bed, checking her phone before she got in the shower. She winced when she accidentally brushed her hand on her right side.
There was a purpling bruise on her side, and she sighed. Moon rolled her eyes at a message from her boss, who wanted her to pick up a package later on during a football game tomorrow night.
Her and Isaac got breakfast at the cafeteria. When she sat down in front of Isaac with three bagels and two cups of coffee, he grimaced at her, "Hungry?"
Moon broke the plastic fork she was holding.

They had been ushered into an assembly first thing, and Isaac thanked the gods that his sister was able to eat breakfast and get caffeine in her system, otherwise she would've burnt down the auditorium.
Not that he wouldn't enjoy it if she did.
"Good morning," Principal Gupta greeted the student body with a somewhat comforting smile. "As many of you know, Simon Kelleher tragically passed away yesterday, after experiencing an allergic reaction."
Moon and Isaac had looked around to find the people who were in the room with them.Cooper was three rows down, Addy four rows down and Bronwyn one row down. She wasn't at all fazed by Nate's absence.
"Losing a member of our community is an awful way to begin the new year.So my message today is simple," Moon glanced at the doors of the gym after hearing them click open, finding two police officers standing there. She frowned slightly. "Let yourselves grieve. There will be grief counsellors available all week. And of course, my door is always open."
Isaac stifled a yawn and Moon hit him in the side.
"We will be honoring Simon's life at tomorrow night's football game. I hope you all attend."
Not that I have much choice, Moon thought to herself before tuning out the rest of the speech. The two walked out of the auditorium once the assembly ended, and while Moon put her things in her locker as her brother went off to his class, someone tapped her locker door.
