Jiang Cheng was working with high energy and high stamina that day. He felt... elated.
The intense love that they'd shared charged him up, pumped up his dopamine, and he even forgot about the pains in his body – they were now just traces, burning proof of the deeper connection that he finally shared with someone. He had been craving for this all his life.
He wondered if A-Huan felt the same way too.
Yes, he would always praise him for how pretty he was, how soft and all the bla bla bla, but Jiang Wanyin himself didn't quite see the outer appearance, he didn't care about the luxury and money. He craved the touch, the warmth, the caressing voice, the stroking hands. He craved the gentle kisses, and the harsh biting, he longed for the scent of Lan Huan's wet hair, for his goofy face when he brought him presents he was never sure he himself would like. This was the real thing, this was the real prize.
The fact that he was rich and beautiful only made things more complicated. More dangerous even.
The press, the media, the fans, the anti-fans, the pigs, the gangs - it was all a gunpowder mix, a circle of knives, and all the blades' pointy tips were inevitably pointing at them. At him. Because he was strong, and rich, and pretty, like a rare breed of some majestic, magnificent tiger; one that everybody else tried to lock inside a cage, gut and skin, use, re-use, and abuse.
The prize was always shiny. It was always high. Up high, where dirty hands couldn't reach it, touch it, sully it.
He was working, and the hours were passing mindlessly; the bar was pretty busy after the holidays, but he was somehow exceedingly on the watch-out. Now, today, he was on the watch-out for two specific silhouettes – a tall, bulky blonde, and a slouching black-haired stranger who had felt like an open, blood-oozing wound in the middle of the warm and cozy bar.
He was sure that Lan Xichen would come to him, sooner or later; he wasn't even thinking about it. The question wasn't "Whether?" any more, but rather "When?".
Huan had only sent him a flood of useless heart emojis in reply to his own text, and it annoyed him at first, like doesn't he really even have the time to even text me?! But then a sobering thought hit him – perhaps Lan Huan was in a meeting and really didn't quite have the time to pay attention to his clingy stupidity.
He smiled and made himself a cup of tea. Wen Ning had left his special mix under the counter, and he was grateful – it was really delicious, and he suspected it was also extremely healthy. Huh.
He missed the brat. He was looking forward to tonight, to meeting him once again.
Dusk was falling, and then the dark fell, and he stole some time to go and check his phone for messages again, but... nothing.
Did he really have the right to demand so much of Lan Huan's time just for himself? His guilty conscious was torturing him today; his brain clearly understood that it was quite irrational to be so jealous, so needy. Yet, his lover seemed to like it. Need it even...
No. Not lover.
Fiancé.
His.
