As soon as Lan Xichen got out of the elevator, he was immediately welcomed to the 20th floor by whooping and cheering.
- Assholes... - he mumbled under his nose, yet grinning broadly. – Did no one really sleep in on fucking Monday... dammit... Obviously no one was here working either!!!
- Ayyy, Mister Lan! You dog!!!
- Xichen, you still got it!
- You party animal, you! My god, the guts! Boss, you must do it again!
- Hey, Boss, how about a drink and you tell us all about it?! How was it???
He was flushed and happy, hearing it all, ignoring it all too, just headed towards his own office, knowing full well that he was already late for his own meeting.
He was blushing, and his head was full not so much of his deed on public TV, although he suspected his father was a lot closer to getting a stroke now, but rather – his mind was full of his gentle lover, his love, their love.
- Mister Lan, sir!
He was met at the doorway by two people – his secretary and Gao Xi. The young lawyer was frowning, but without a single word he just pushed a couple of pages into his hands, mumbling:
- Take this. I hate it, I don't want it anywhere near me any more.
Lan Xichen didn't have to look; he knew those would be Jenny Yao's phone records, and the papers from Mikey's safe-box. He just smiled at him and nodded slowly, acknowledging his efforts. He didn't need to know more, and he didn't need to check. Gao Xi had his own network of informants, a remnant from his previous job at the D.A.'s office, and one of the main reasons why Lan Xichen had head-hunted him out and away from that primordial darkness.
Next, he turned to his secretary with some mild curiosity; the young lady seemed quite agitated today, and this was quite atypical for her – on most days, she wouldn't even blink during their discussion sessions over Victor Zorn's case.
- What is it, darling? – he asked carefully.
- I'm so sorry, sir. - she mumbled apologetically. – It's your... mother. Sir, she has been calling... persistently... for---
- I see, darling. – he interrupted her resolutely, not changing his light-hearted tone of voice, smiling at her so that she could finally calm down. – I'll deal with it today. – he promise-lied. – You don't have to talk to her again. Please, darling?
- Whatever you need, Boss. – she mumbled, blushing slightly.
Her boss was just so charming. And yes. She had a mild crush on him. Aaaand - yes. She had watched the morning show too.
- Good.
He turned to Gao Xi again and they both entered the office now to a sulking Katherine and an intrigued Du Shuangyu.
- What's so urgent now that Xi's ignoring me, Boss?! – she grunted at him.
- What? – Lan Huan laughed now. – No "Good morning"? And is it just "Xi" now, babygirl? - he mocked at her, sitting down in his enormous armchair heavily, and placing the Jenny paperwork in front of him.
