It was the Monday after a very stressful weekend. The air outside was hot and sticky as the humidity was rising, the sky a bright blue with the sun shining through the thin glass windows.
His leg was bouncing fiercely, hands laced together on top of his torso, sitting inside the waiting room of the doctor's office. Laying the magazine he was reading onto the chair next to him, as he used his hand to shield his face from the bright sunlight peeking through the lavender curtains hanging up across the room.
Shifting slightly, he scanned the small space thoroughly, seeing all the woman in the chairs adjacent theirs- glancing at him, the stares making him a little uncomfortable.
She shifted in her seat next to him, "You okay?" Ricky asked
Amy shrugged, peeking out from the issue of Parenting Weekly she was involved in to look at him. "Yeah I'm fine I guess, what about you? You're awfully quite today, everything alright?"
"Truth" His heart began to pound faster. "Tell her the truth!" his head screamed at him.
"You want the truth?" She nodded at him. "Please", lying the magazine down next to her.
"Okay...I'm scared. I know this is a stupid thing to say but I have to ask it, are you sure you're pregnant? Maybe the test was a false positive, I mean they sometimes happen, right?"
It was silent for a few seconds
"What am I saying? Of course you would know you're pregnant, geez I'm an idiot."
"Ricky, I wish I could tell you the test was false, but I'd be lying..."
"I know I just thought...forget it, it was a stupid thing to say." Ricky dismissed, embarrassed.
"No it wasn't." Amy stated sweetly. "You're nervous, I get it. I do. I've been where you are, remember? Only this time I'm not alone."
They both were silent for a minute.
Ricky swallowed hard before speaking again and looked down at the ground. "I've never done this before... this pregnancy stuff... I wasn't around when you were pregnant with John, so this is all new to me. I mean where do I start, what if I do something wrong? What If I...mess something up? I'm happy for us, really I am but I'm nervous, nervous something will go wrong and-"
Amy touched his hand, gently pulling it in hers. Their gazes locked, her eyes gentle, "you start by being here."
His legs began to shake again. She touched his shoulder. "Remember what you told me when I told you I was pregnant? You said we'll be ok... We'll be ok, Ricky"
He nodded. "How are you so... calm about all of this, Amy?"
She gave him a small smile, brushing the tips of his knuckles with her thumb, "because this time... I have you by my side, and I promise as soon as you see the baby's heartbeat, your nerves will go away" His lip turned up slightly. "Now get excited, we're about to see our baby!"
He gave her a half smile "Ok"
"Juergens", a blonde nurse with a high ponytail announced into the waiting room.

"Can you help me with this, please?" Amy asked a distracted Ricky from across the exam room they were currently waiting in.
Ricky was over in the corner, lost in his own little world, as he stared intently on the posters lining the green tinted walls.
"Ricky!" she half laughed, half shouted at him; snapping him out of the stare down, "Umm Oh sorry, what?"
