"We need to get help." Jenny said, her eyes widening.
Will shook his head, agreeing. The two walked down the street, picking up their pace. They came across a rundown police station.
"Think there's anyone inside?" Will asked.
"I don't know, but only one way to find out."
They glanced at each other then headed for the door. They crept inside, constantly watching their surroundings.
"Hello?" Jenny called.
They heard footsteps scattering in the very back. They looked at each other with wide eyes. They snuck towards the source of the sound. Jenny took cover behind a wall, not sure if someone back there could have a gun. She poked her head out and stared into the dark room. She squinted until finally, a pair of blood red eyes began staring back at her. She jerked back and her breathing became heavy.
"What is it?" Will asked.
"I have no idea." she breathed.
Will motioned for her to scoot back and allow him to peer out. He poked his head around the corner. He squinted his eyes and leaned towards the room. A pair of red eyes began glowing. Rather than jerking back like Jenny, Will continued to stare.
"Will?" Jenny whispered. He completely ignored her.
"Will, we need to leave." she said. He continued to stare. Jenny cocked her head head and stared at Will. She gripped his shirt sleeve and pulled him back behind the wall. He shook his head and his eyes widened.
"What's wrong with you?! We need to get out of here!" Jenny whispered.
"Sorry...let's...just...go." he stuttered. Jenny looked at him for a minute, but decided to let it go. They had more important things to do. They quietly left the building and continued through the beaten down town.
"What happened back there?" Jenny asked after several moments of silence.
"I...I don't know. Let's forget about it. We need to focus on this whole...thing." he said.
They found other things to talk about as they continued through the town. They reached another building. This one was lit up, none of the windows were busted, and they could see people in the higher levels of it.
"Look!" Jenny said, pointing at the people. Her eyes lit up.
"Come on! Let's go!" he said, now sprinting towards the door. They ran through the double doors.
"Hold!" Jenny said, outstretching her arm to stop Will. "It could be a trap."
They crept through the building. Jenny motioned to a staircase. Jenny crawled up them while Will waited at the bottom. She tip-toed around the top. She spotted a man behind a desk, shaking. She walked towards him until she was hovering over him.
"Please! Don't kill me!" he shouted, holding his shaking hands in front of his face.
"Kill you? I just need some answers." she said. He lowered his hands and pulled himself to his feet.
"Answers to what?" he asked. She grabbed him by the hand and led him downstairs to Will.
"We need some answers as to what's going on in this town. You know, the cannibals, the insane people sitting in the alleys." Jenny said.
"It's going to take a bit of explaining." he said. Jenny and Will nodded simultaneously. The man begun. "A few months ago, Tomassetti Research Facility released a new vaccines to the public. It was said to stop the spread of a new disease. Not many people trusted it at first." he stopped to gathered his thoughts than began again. "The few people that did get it, went on insanity trips. Killing their family members, police, and even themselves. They found a brain-eating virus in the vaccine. It was driving these people over the edge. Turning them into...well...zombies!" Jenny and Will glanced at each other.
"Zombies?" Jenny said. She laid her head in her hands.
"We have to stop this." she said. "There has to be a way."
Will looked at her in confusion and what seemed like disgust.
"What?" she said.
"You're really going to try and stop some virus? Are you a scientist now?" he snapped. Jenny's determination began to fade.
"It's worth a shot. We're going to die anyway. Why not do something worth dying for?" she said.
"Than do it yourself. I'm out." Will said, walking out of the building.
"Wait! You're just leaving me?" she said.
"Yep." he said, putting his thumb up and continuing to walk. Jenny decided not to let it bother her. She sat down and thought for a moment.
"What's your name?" she said, her glare remaining on the floor.
"Camden. Cam for short." Jenny nodded.
"So Cam, where's this research facility?" she said, standing.
"I'll show you." he said. They walked for a few hours until coming upon a large building. Letters of the sign were flashing and falling off.
"That it?" she asked. He nodded. They walked to the front doors.
"Now before we go in there I'd like to say this." Jenny started. Cam looked at her, waiting for her to finish. "This isn't a horror movie where we're all stupid. Please be smart about this." he nodded and laughed as they pushed open the doors. They stayed close to each other as they walked.
"Do you have any idea where to start" Jenny whispered.
"Nope." he said.
"That's helpful." she said. They continued walking until they came upon a glass door.
"We need a card to scan. Look for a body." they searched the room for a dead worker.
"Got on!" Cam whispered. They scanned the card and crept through the door. Broken glass was all around them. Test tubes were spilt with various liquids littering the floor.
"Do you have any idea what we're looking for?" she asked.
"Kind of. Before the outbreak, a few pictures were leaked of the lab and what was going on. It was underground. They were hiding the ingredients. I had a friend in the lab. He told me pretty much everything. I was an anonymous reporter. I leaked everything." Cam said.
"So you and him were narks? Ha figures." Jenny remarked. Cam laughed and helped her search the facility. They came to another scanner. The card was denied.
"What now?" he asked.
"Did your friend say anything about certain people only going down there?" Cam stood thinking for a minute.
"He did actually. Only him and his buddy Donny could go without special permission. Donny died in here. I never heard from Archie though. I bet we could find Donny's body." they searched the facility for Donny. "Oh!" Cam yelled. Jenny walked over to him.
"Find him?" she asked.
"Nope, but I found Archie." Jenny looked to see a mid-sized man banging on the glass. He was trapped in a glass case. His lips were dry and his eyes were blood-shot. "How do we get his card without dying?" Cam asked.
"Knock on the glass while I go in." she said. Cam nodded and walked to the other side. He began banging on the glass. Archie hobbled to that side and scratched at the glass. Jenny slipped in and grabbed his card. Archie whipped around when he felt her hand in his pocket. Her eyes widened as she bolted out of the case, slamming the door.
"Damn he's quick." she said.
"Aren't you a bit young for cussing?" Cam smirked.
"Shut up." Jenny said, glaring at him. They scanned the card and proceeded down a large staircase. When they reached the bottom, there was a glass door. They peered through to see the bottom was worse. 'Zombies' roamed throughout the room. Some pounded on the glass at the sight of Jenny and Cam.
"Let us out!" they screamed.
"Zombies talk?" Jenny said.
"Apparently." Cam responded. "What now?" Jenny shrugged her shoulders. They stood watching the...creatures scurry back and forth as they thought of their next move.
