The hole was dark and musty. Dust was everywhere, including Jenny's mouth. "Hello. Will? Mom? Anyone!" Jenny yelled through the darkness.
She walked slowly, feeling for anything or anyone. Finally, her hand touched a cool, wet surface. It was a wall covered in thick ivy. Was she underground? Was she even outside? She yelled out once again.
"Anyone! Can anybody hear me?" she could hear herself echoing through the endless darkness. Suddenly, she heard someone yell and then a click.
"Found it!" the voice yelled and a long row of dim light bulbs lit the narrow tunnel. Jenny closed her eyes to adjust to the light, which was a big mistake. When she opened her eyes, Will stood in front of her, but she didn't realize it until he was on the ground, moaning.
"Will! I'm so sorry! I... I didn't realize it was you!" Jenny said, kneeling beside him.
"It's...it's ok." he said through a scratchy voice. She helped him to his feet and they began walking down the long tunnel.
"Who were you yelling at earlier?" Jenny said, breaking the silence.
"Jamie. She was with me, but she disappeared." Will said. The rest of the journey was silent. They came to a flight of stairs that looked like they had been there since the beginning of time. They slowly trudged up the stairs, sticking close together incase something went wrong.
They got to the top and were relieved to see sunlight. They were in a strange city they had never seen before. They walked through the abandoned town. There hadn't been any signs of Andrew in a long time. It's like he just disappeared. They finally found a man hunched in a corner, rocking back and forth.
"Sir, can you help..." Will stopped when he realized what the man was saying.
"Their coming. They want us dead. They will chop off our head." he was singing.
"Will, I'm scared. What's he talking about?" Jenny whispered.
"I don't know, but let's find someone a little less... crazy." They began backing up and slowly turned away, but were stopped when the man spoke.
"You might think I'm crazy, but I've seen things. Things no one should have to see. Go on. Leave me here, but we're all going to die. Soon." and with that, he went back to singing his song.
Jenny and Will continued through the city when they were stopped by a sign. It read: Jacksonville: Population: 500 Slowly decreasing. Jenny and Will looked at each other in shock. This was all too creepy. At that moment, they realized, this was no longer a battle, it was a war.
