When a group of gems has a symbol, it usually refers to rebel groups. However, they can rarely refer to groups of loyalists. For example, the Pentagons are a group of space travelers consisting of a Musgravite, an Iolite, a Charoite, and a Purple Jasper.
These are the gems in your average Musgravite team, but there is a fatal difference in all of the gems.
They all have pentagon insignias rather than hexagons.
This was considered a defect until the team proved to be more efficient, robust, effective, etc. than any other group. This made them well known as the Pentagons.
The phenomenon that the group all had in common was reverse defection. Reverse defection is when a gem appears to be defective, whether mentally or physically, but is much better at its job than the others of its gem type.
