venus

can i ask you a question?
ask, you say, eyes like caramel
but i shy away
i wouldn't want you to think i'm
weak? i don't know
soft, crazy,

so i write about it, whilst you play badminton in the park, white shirt, coffee skin, boyish laugh, echoing.

will you move to venus with me, lover?
i'll leave my father,
and you love your family, but maybe you'll love me more
we'll sit in a spacecraft meant for two
and away to the planet of love
we'll have children
and raise them amongst alien flowers
pink hues and fairies
and the smell of home all year long
there'll be so much love
we won't ever have to think
about anything else
we'll never run out of things to talk
you'll never stop wanting to touch me
i'll never stop wanting to keep you happy
we won't ever tire of each other
we'll make the planet of love our home
we'll live on venus forever, sweet heart
and we won't miss the earth, would we? why should we? when it's where everyone else is,
where troubles lie,
and complications arise
no, we'll stay here
planet meant for lovers
the two of us
happy forever
we'll never say farewell
there will be no yearning
there will be no separation
just you, with me, and nothing else
