"The prince and the princess get married, and they live happily ever after."

The big trouble with all relationships is that the excitement fizzles out.

When things first started, it was all beautiful. Whenever you two were together, things were exciting. Every day was a fascinating adventure, and the world was a magical place you immersed yourself.

Then, unfortunately, everything slowly goes sour.

Being together with your partner is getting dull.

The fun has disappeared. You two are no longer in sync. And being together feels like a chore, like cleaning your house. Now you have more fun reading alone than doing anything with your partner.

Why do all these things have to happen to you and your partner?

The answer is simple. Your relationship has run out of good karma.

The Rise And Fall of Everything

Let's recap. All things happening to you are due to your karma.

You get a free meal today because you were generous to others long ago.

However, you will no longer get free meals when your karma runs out. You can imagine your karmic wallet getting empty after you have spent it on the good things you want.

To get new free meals, you must plant new seeds of generosity.

It is the same for your relationship with your partner.

Your wonderful time with your romantic partner came from your past deeds of compassion. To extend your wonderful experience, you must do new compassionate actions towards others.

In other words, it's time to refill your compassion wallet with love.

Karmic Management

Looking after your karmic farm is very similar to financial planning.

If you spend all you earn, you will end up very poor when you retire.

It is the same with your karma. When you have time and money, it is alright to enjoy yourself, but never waste it all on buying luxuries, eating in lavish restaurants and going on extravagant trips.

Instead, invest in your karma to get more good karma in the future.

In this sense, you are like a savvy manager of your karmic fund.

You have to allocate your time and money for this purpose. Carefully research different NGOs and charities to see which one you want to help with your time and money.

Also, pay attention to people around if anyone needs your help.

One thing people often say is that they can't find anyone to help.

But when you look closely, especially in your workplace and with your relatives, you will find dozens of people who need help, like finding someone to look after their children when they work.

Moreover, with the help of the Internet, it is easier than ever.

Hundreds of NGOs and charities are looking for volunteers online.

One example is Time Auction, a worldwide volunteering platform started by two young women in Hong Kong. NGOs are looking for different volunteers like event controllers and graphic designers.

Therefore, there's no excuse for you being unable to find people to help.

Using Karmic Leverage

In financial markets, leverage is a double-edged sword.

It can make you a lot of money but also wipe out your entire fortune.

It is also the same in the karmic world. If you do bad things to a fully enlightened spiritual person, the karma will be much worse than hurting an ordinary fellow on the street.

Luckily, it works both ways. You can magnify your good karma similarly.

Geshe Michael mentioned six ways to plant good karma faster:

1. Pick your target wisely. Help those who need your help urgently, those who have helped you before, and those who can help many others after you help them.

2. Hit the bullseye whenever you can. If you can solve the problem once and for all (i.e. cure a disease completely), never settle for temporary solutions (i.e. giving medicine away).

3. Maintain a charitable attitude when you help people. If you help people because you want to help them, the karma will be greater than if you do it because you have to do it.

4. Be deliberate in your planning. The size of your karma depends very little on the monetary value of what you offer. Instead, it depends a lot on how intentional and well-planned your actions are.

5. Let it become a habit. If you only do charity work whenever you feel like doing it, the karma will not be as strong if you resolve to make it a regular part of your life.

6. Think about the episodes when you help others. Remember every detail of your action as if you are writing a report to God. Be glad you helped them, just as you want others to help you.

Now you are about the learn about the seventh way I have discovered.

And that is to make a "karmic asset" that generates good karma 24/7.

In personal finance, there is a popular concept called financial freedom.

It means that your passive income is enough to cover all your expenses.

Passive income means earnings generated with little involvement from you. Examples include property rents, bond dividends, book royalties and sales of your online courses.

To create passive income, you must first accumulate assets.

Some examples are properties, bonds, copyrights and intellectual rights.

It is the same for karma. You can give books to everybody, or you can build a public library for everyone to access. Whenever someone uses the library to learn something, you receive good karma!

The beauty is that you can get good karma while you are sleeping!

It sounds great! But is there any actual example?

Leveraging Group Power

Geshe Michael tells this story in one of the retreats with his students.

There is a woman from Ukraine. She wants to have a baby.

Unfortunately, she has been through miscarriage twice, and the misfortune makes her heartbroken. Therefore, she asks a colleague of Geshe Michael what she should do.

And the colleague goes through the same four steps with her.

Firstly, she has to decide what she wants in one sentence.

In her case, she wants to give birth to a cute and healthy baby.

Secondly, she has to help others to do the same. In other words, she must find other women who have also been through a miscarriage and offer them emotional support.

But how can she find more women facing the same difficulty as her?

Instead of searching them one by one, she starts an online group.

The group aims to help women who suffer from miscarriages where members can support each other. She ends up with about 150 women joining the group where they can find help.

Not long later, she ends up having a wonderful baby successfully.

What's cool about the group is that she leverages other people's power.

She only has limited time and energy if she works alone. But with a group, other members can help each other without her involvement. It benefits many women even when she is sleeping.

And this is how you can grow your karma exponentially with a system.
