chapter one.
( ever since new york )
S1E1 — pilot.
THE STREETS OF MANHATTAN, NEW YORK WOULD FOREVER BE A COMFORT to Ophelia Baudelaire-Hughes. The bustling lanes of passerby's who had no business in anyone else, and the rows of highland stores would always be reminiscent of Ophelia's childhood she growing up on the Upper East Side. No matter how long she would stay away, regardless of how many times her parents would sweep her off her feet to other countries, New York would always be Ophelia's home.Rome had been fabulous, Ophelia had to admit ( begrudgingly, albeit ). It had been the worst time for her to move thousands of miles across the world — Serena had left for boarding school, which was possibly the most peculiar thing Ophelia could imagine Serena to do, and Blair and Nate's, seemingly, perfect relationship with Nate Archibald was on the rocks, much to Blair's disdain and bafflement.
Ophelia had been stubborn when her parents, Cressida and Milo Baudelaire-Hughes, were insistent on their small family living in Rome for the year. She had grown up being put first, as she were an only child, and always being given what her mind desired for. It had been a no-brainer to Ophelia that once she announced her high dislike for Rome, her mother and father would call it all off in an instant, and leave Blair and Ophelia to mourn their shattered friendship with Serena.
Strangely, enough, though, Ophelia didn't get her own way. No matter how much she pleaded with her mother, how many iridescent tears streamed down her rosy cheeks, Cressida and Milo were insistent on it, leaving Ophelia to pack up her bags, bid goodbye to her heartbroken Blair, and leave the warm atmosphere of Manhattan for Rome, Italy, somewhere completely different for Ophelia.
In the beginning, she had been reluctant to admit the beauty of the city. She hated every cobbled path they walked down, every monument the admired with heart-shaped irises, and every Italian delicacy she endured. It was torture, in simperer terms, to fake her hatred for the city, when, in reality, she was in awe. It really was stunning, and not even the obstinate teenager could deny it.
