Nicks POV

Sunday afternoon

Im doing homework in my room or at least attempting to when my phone buzzes a smile creeps across my face when I realise it's a message from Charlie suddenly my homework is mysteriously abandoned on my desk and I'm opening my phone my smile only growing

Charlie ❤️ 12:25pm: I'm bored, mums driving me mental fancy grabbing a Starbucks or something in town and going for a walk xx

The text warms my heart and I reply almost instantly already packing up my homework and equipment as I'm responding to Charlie and thinking about heading out the door

Nick 🍑 12:26pm: that... is one of the best ideas you've had all week Char, do you want me to come to you or are you already on your way? I'm sorry your mums being such a pain darling xxx

Charlie ❤️ 12:28pm
How did you know... I hope that's okay.... I can wait at the corner of the road for you?
Your such a mind reader ;)
I'm actually just about to round the corner to your house so I can stop here? ... nah don't worry about that mad cow... I just need a hug xxx

Nick 🍑 12:29pm
Of course it is love but no S words please and no keep walking
Just call me vision... and also you've got snap maps on so I can see you x
I'll be waiting outside when you get here... an abundance of hugs and kisses reserved for you xxx

"Off out, Nick?" Mum asks, walking past my bedroom door. She was collecting and putting away a stack of washing she'd just taken out of the machine. "Yeah, Charlie just texted asking if I want to go and get a coffee and go for a walk. His family is giving him grief again. It's alright, isn't it? I've finished my homework for now anyway." I smile, pulling on my coat and kissing her cheek. "Totally fine, my love! That sounds nice. Have fun. Tell Charlie to keep his chin up for me," she calls.

Before I even reach the bottom of the stairs, the doorbell sounds. I see a skinny, tall figure through the glass. - Charlie

"I'll take those abundance of hugs and kisses now, please," Charlie croaks out as soon as I open the door hurriedly. He looks like he's been crying all the way here. His eyes are red, and as I hug him, his cheeks are damp, and it hadn't been raining. I realize he hadn't been as bored as he'd let on. I slam the door shut, and Charlie flinches. "Sorry," I mumble. Charlie gives me a small smile as I grab his hand. "Come on, you tell me everything," I say as we start to walk.

By the time we reach town, Charlie has told me the whole story. His mum hadn't listened to him about his eating plan, and things had escalated into an argument about Charlie's clothing choices. It ended in her just muscling into Charlie about our relationship, Charlie's future, Charlie's school work, and by the sounds of things, anything else she's been worked up about over what seems like the last few months. I suddenly stop as we continue our walk to the coffee shop and I grab Charlie by the shoulders.

"Babe," I say, clearly but calmly, as I can hear Charlie's breath and speech quickening, and I need to do all I can from preventing him from having a panic attack over his family, which I know he will beat himself up about later. "Breathe, please," I say. "Five deep breaths, then go!" I say, encouraging him. As Charlie works his way through the fourth and fifth breath, I instantly see and feel him relax. "I'm... she just drives me ballistic... does she realize I am a person, and I do have feelings, and some of the things she says suck, and really makes me anxious... which does not help my recovery in the slightest, by the way," Charlie stops talking, and I wordlessly pull him into a hug, and I could feel he needed it. "God, I'm so lucky to have you," he mumbles through a teary voice only loud enough so only we can hear.
