chapter song: till there was you-the beatles

march 2023

Y/N left the next morning which gave the family some privacy to plan freely. Ronnie would be home tomorrow, but we wanted to have as much ready before Friday as we could. We all sat in the living room, brainstorming ideas.

"Is this going to be like a two phase thing?" Sam asks, kicking his feet up on the couch while balancing the tea cup on the chair of the sofa.

"I think so, I was thinking that I take her out to a nice dinner or something and then we come back here and have part two and I will ask her here?" I say.

"That might pressure her into saying yes if you ask in front of us." Jake says.

"I didn't think about that."

"Are there any places you guys have either here or at school that meant a lot?"

"We used to frequent this one pizza place at school but that doesn't really feel special enough."

"Yeah, that may be a bit too casual." Mom agreed.

"There is the coffee shop here that she really likes."

"Still too casual, maybe take her there the next morning to make it even more special." Jake suggests.

"Okay, so then what do I do for the actual proposal then?" I asked, my brain not coming up with anything original.

"Maybe we should wait for Ronnie, she's the most creative when it comes to these things."

THE NEXT DAY...

When Ronnie arrived, she was roped into planning within a minute of walking through the door. We had all reassumed our planning in the living room, cups of tea in hand for optimum efficiency.

"Okay, so what do you have planned so far?" Ronnie said, plopping down on the couch after we had filled her in on the past few months.

"Um, I have the ring." I grinned.

"Oh, so you would have me plan this whole thing?" She raised an eyebrow.

"Not the whole thing, but maybe help getting the ball rolling?"

She rolled her eyes, "Fine. Just because I want this to go nicely for her."

"Thank you, Ronnie." I smiled.

"What's her favorite love song?" Ronnie asked.

"Easy. Its if by bread." I said, confidently.

"How well do you know it?"

"Fairly well, why?"

"You're going to sing it for her."

"That's not a bad idea." Jake chimed in.

"I know. Here is what I have in mind. Take her out to a nice dinner, but make sure you call ahead and see if they'll let you sing to her. At the end of the dinner, excuse yourself to go to the bathroom, and then the next time she sees you, you'll be singing to her in front of everyone and then propose at the end of the song." She says, matter-of-factly.

"Ronnie, you're brilliant."

"I know." She said.

"I don't know where I should take her though." I frowned, racking my brain for ideas that seemed fruitless.

"There's that really fucking fancy place that just opened up in Royal Oak. Let me see if I can find what its called." Jake said, pulling out his phone.

Within a few minutes, he scooted closer to show me the photos of the restaurant on his phone.

"She'll love that

"She'll love that." I said, peering over at his phone.

"There's limited space though for any instrument set up." Ronnie said.

"That's okay, Jake and I can do it the old fashioned way. Acoustic. We can just walk around and serenade her directly. Are you up for it Jake?" I asked.

He nodded.

"Can Danny and I come in disguises and sit at the table behind you guys?" Sam asked.

"It's already awkward enough that Jake will be there."

"Hey!" Jake exclaimed.

"It's true, I just don't want her to feel pressured. I want her to say yes because she wants to."

"Okay." Sam frowned.

"Okay, I'm going to go and make a reservation and make sure that they're okay with us singing. Jake, let's practice that song after. I want to know it like the back of my hand. I really don't want to screw anything up."

"Joshua, honey, breathe. Everything will go smoothly." Mom said.

I took a deep breath and proceeded to the other room.

**

"The plan is a go." I say to Jake, staggering back in.

"Alright, let's get to it. We've got a lot to do in two days." He said, jumping up from his spot on the couch.

In two days, no matter her answer, things were going to be a hell of a lot different.
