Mel had woken up before James did. He was all cute and fluffy, wrapped up in the blankets and sheets. She quietly got up, showered and changed. Mel had promised Morgan that's she would make pancakes. She made her way to the communal kitchen and started cooking. She started making the meats because they took the longest. She divided them in half and put them in a breakfast casserole, placing the mixture in the oven. Then she got started on making coffee and tea. She didn't want to start the pancakes until Morgan arrived. Instead she started hash browns and a fruit salad up. She heard little feet behind her on the tiled floor.
"How I wonder who that could be? Could that be my little assistant chef come to help me?" Mel said sing songly.
"Boo! How did you know it was me?" Morgan said as Pepper helped herself to a cup of coffee smiling.
"Because I knew you would be the only other person up besides me. Are you ready to help?" She asked.
"What can I do?"
"Well first, we are going to put your hair up." Mel did her hair in the same bun she was wearing using chopsticks. Morgan giggled, "Next, we are going to put an apron on you. See now you look like a chef. Let's measure out everything first."
Pepper smiled as Morgan carefully measured things out and paid attention. Mel pulled up a step stool so Morgan could reach the stove for flipping the pancakes. She explained to Morgan how you have to wait for the bubbles to start then you slide the turner underneath and flip the pancake over to a bare spot and wait a few minutes, not to long or they would burn. The finished ones went onto a plate for everyone to pick from. She guided Morgan on the first few turnings, then allowed Morgan to turn the last few by herself. She was so proud of herself.
"Mommy, look!" Morgan said as she brought over the plate to the table. Mel brought the syrup. James had been sitting at the table unnoticed as the two had been working. Mel, smiled to herself. He gave her a peck on the cheek and when no one was looking, a smack on her ass.
"So Morgan, what did you ask Santa for last night?" Mel asked as she got the casserole out and placed the rest of the food for everyone who was still left from the night before.
"I wanted a puppy, but now I think I want a pony." Morgan said with a mouthful of pancakes.
"Wow, those are both some big girl presents." Mel said. "Do you know how to ride a horse?"
"No, I am hoping if I get a pony I will learn how to ride one." Morgan said.
"Well, you know you can learn to ride one without having one right? Maybe mommy could look into that for you, or Santa?"
Pepper mouthed a thank you to Mel when Morgan wasn't looking.
Thor came down from his rooms and Morgan ran up to him giving him a big hug. "Uncle Thor, I made pancakes."
"You did, all by yourself?" He asked.
"No, Aunt Mel helped."
"Well, Aunt Mel is the best cook so I am sure they will be delicious." He said putting a large forkful into his mouth. "Oh and they are, I can really tell you were the cook here Morgan, these are way better than the ones Aunt Mel makes." Mel rolled her eyes, she liked how playful he was being with Morgan though.
"You did good, honey," James stated.
The others slowly filed in the room and Morgan regaled them with the tale of her being the head chef. Mel just smiled as she ate and sipped her tea. James took her hand and kissed it, placing it on his leg.
"So what do you two have planned for today?" Clint asked, clearly nursing a hangover. Mel sat some orange juice and aspirin in front of him for him to take. He did gladly.
"Oh, I don't know, we have some minor Christmas shopping to do. We are still trying to find some things for the living room. We almost have the place together."
"I'm kind of excited to see what you two came up with. Have you been able to find tenants for your old apartment yet?" Pepper asked.
"Yes, but they won't be able to move in until after the new year. Nice couple."
The rest of the day, flew past with the different families returning to their homes for the upcoming holiday and everyone doing little things to prepare. Only Thor, Bruce, James and Mel stayed at the compound.
