CHAPTER EIGHT

COMPETITION

Art was one of the few classes Ayato had with Komi. Art was the only class where he took the chance to admire her. Sometimes when they had partner work in Chemistry, he'd pair up with her and admire her then. But after that, he kind of forgets she exists until their sixth period, which is a free period.

It felt like nothing had changed other than whenever they greeted each other, it was more intimate. While it felt like nothing had changed with Ayato, it felt like it changed with Ayaka. Before, Komi and Ayaka were so close but now it was toned down. Looking at them before Komi started 'dating' Ayato, it seemed like they were a couple. Everyone expected them to become one at some point. But now, it strictly feels like a friendship.

"Are you jealous that your sister spends more time with Komi than you do?" Thoma asked, seeing his intense gaze towards Komi and Ayaka. "No," he said, returning to his work. Kokomi's mouth opened as she turned her head to Sara. She narrowed her eyes at Ayato before turning to Kokomi and whispering something in her ear.

"Oh, I hope not!" She exclaimed in a worried tone. "I swear he forgets about her as soon as fourth period starts," Sara whispered. "But how?! Komi's so sweet!" Kokomi whispered back, making sure Ayato didn't hear them. He wasn't even paying attention. "Cause he's an asshole," Sara replied. "You sound like Luma." "Well, Luma has a point. I think they hate the guys more now that they're dating their best friend and cousin."

"Yeah, I heard they tackled Albedo!" Kokomi exclaimed in shock. "Honestly, good for them. They're just trying to protect their cousin. But, I still don't understand what changed between Luma and Kaeya. Did he finally apologize or something? Luma's not the type to forgive so quickly though." Sara held her chin, thinking. "I know right? It's cute but it came out of nowhere! I honestly thought they were gonna date their roommate or Beidou and Ningguang," Kokomi explained, picking up a colored pencil.

"Or that Tartaglia guy. I dunno. Some people were hoping for that. I thought they'd date Beidou and Ningguang though," Sara said, shrugging. Instead of hearing what the girls had to say about Luma's love life, Thoma tried to focus on a conversation with Ayato. "Dude, you're so obvious," Ayato said, rubbing his forehead. "H- Huh? What do you mean?"

"You're obviously jealous over not being in Luma's boring love life," Ayato replied. "I'm not. I swear!" He said because he doesn't want to face Kaeya over liking his partner. "Also it's far from boring. It's more interesting than yours," he murmured, returning to his work. "What?" "Nothing!" Thoma quickly said, not wanting to face Ayato either.

"So...has my brother treated you nicely?" Ayaka asked Komi, who was sketching a river surrounded by what would become colorful flowers. "Oh yeah! Totally," Komi exclaimed, smiling brightly as she turned her head to Ayaka. "Good. That's good to hear," Ayaka replied, staring down as her nearly done work with flushed cheeks. The assignment was due the next day and Komi had just started.
