CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

I LOVE YOU

Xiao returned from work at 8:30PM. Confused by the silence, he entered Luma's room to see them lying against the headboard with their legs pulled to their chest as they cried their eyes out. "What's wrong? He asked in concern, approaching the bed. "Kaeya and I...we broke up," they explained, sniffling. They rubbed their eyes and looked away from him. Luma was embarrassed and ashamed.

Embarrassed they allowed themselves to be put in this position and ashamed they let him make them feel this way. Xiao wrapped his arms around them and allowed them to cry into his shoulder. 'That bastard,' he thought to himself. He was mad at Kaeya. He broke their heart once. Xiao hoped it wouldn't happen again. But, it did. Rage was burning throughout Xiao's body.

He composed himself, however. He knew he needed to be there for Luma. A friend by their side. A shoulder to cry on. But, he swore the next time he saw Kaeya, he'd punch him in the face.

Luma didn't care at this point. Pulling away, they were ready to tell Xiao everything. Well, almost everything.

"Kaeya and I...weren't actually dating. We were fake dating. But, old feelings resurfaced and I was in love with him again. Today, I found out he was fucking Florence. I hate myself for feeling betrayed when we both made it clear it meant nothing. God, I'm so stupid," they explained, covering their face and sobbing.

Luma wasn't going to bring up how they were conflicted at first because they were in love with Xiao and when Kaede and Albedo announced they were officially dating it deeply affected them. Luma couldn't handle any more heartbreak they'd thought they'd receive from Xiao if they confessed and they weren't going to explain all the Heartthrobs were in false relationships.

"Luma," he spoke softly, pulling their hands from their face. "You're not stupid. It's not your fault you fell in love with him again or that he betrayed you. Don't be so hard on yourself for something like this. I'm so sorry. I would take your pain away in a heartbeat if I could." Luma's glossy eyes widened. Xiao has never acted like this. Even if they were good friends (though have acted like more on numerous occasions), he's never been this sympathetic and comforting.

It wasn't like he was being rude. It was just part of his personality not to be as comforting as he was in this moment. Luma didn't care. It was what they needed and was grateful for him being there for them.

More than anything, Xiao wanted to confess. Tell them he loved them more than anything on this earth. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with them and be there for them every step of the way. He wanted to tell them he'd give up the world just to be with them. He wanted to prove his love and show it, knowing words couldn't be enough to convince Luma. Many words were said to Luma by people who never meant them. He wanted, no, needed them to believe it. Believe there was nothing more he loved and treasured in this world than them.
