SHE STRODE CONFIDENTLY DOWN THE DIMLY LIT CORRIDORS OF HELLS GATE, her combat boots thudding against the metallic floor with each step. Her eyes were alert, scanning the faces of the people she passed by, searching for any sign of her mother. She knew that she was in the lab like she always has, or either plugged into her avatar body taking samples that she needed for her tests. Or even maybe with her father in the cafeteria with his colleagues. Adela was going to find her mother either way.
As Adela turned the corner, a familiar voice called out from behind her. "Hey! Adela, wait up!" she recognised that voice immediately - her close friend, Briar. She looked over her shoulder, with a smile she always gives to everyone, almost everyone. Without breaking her stride, she let her friend catch up with her. "What's up?" she asked Briar.
"So, you know how you asked me to go into the system and see who the ones who killed them in the school years ago, the other day." Briar asked. Flipping through the files in her hands, looking through pages upon pages of them. "Yeah. What about it? You found something?" Adela asked, now alerted even more and her eyes widened a bit, as she averted her eyes to Briar. Now her attention is fully on her. Standing in the middle of the crowded hallway.
"It was Selfridge, who ordered, Quaritch and Wainfleet and the others, to kill those kids at the school. I mean, it was pretty obvious it was them right." Briar closed the files in her hands, now looking at the angered woman in front of her. And damned on Briar she knows that look when she finds out something she's not supposed to. But that vanished in a blink of an eye. That's one thing she loved about Adela. She was damn good at how she really felt about any situation she's in. But it was always a downfall for not what she was really feeling.
"I kind of had a feeling they had something to do with it. Thanks for that Briar. I owe you one." Adela smiled a bit, giving her a small smile.

Adela walked into the Link room, with one or two people in the pods. On one side of the room she saw two new fresh face males with Max, a smile blooming on her pale pink lips. She briskets over to the three males, with a smile that could warm anyone. The one in the wheelchair nodded at her, and the taller one gave her a friendly smile. "Hi Adela," Max said.
Max introduced the two males with him, "This is Jake Sully and Norm Spellman." Adela nodded in acknowledgement, sizing them up with a quick glance.
"Nice to meet you both," she said, extending a hand to each of them in turn. "Welcome to Hell's Gate, well more so with Pandora."
As Adela introduced herself to the newbies, "I'm Adela Shaw." She couldn't help but notice the excitement in Norm's eyes as he asked if she was Grace's daughter. Adela smiled at that and nodded, feeling a sense of pride at being associated with her brilliant mother. It wasn't a secret that she was the daughter of a well-known xenobotanist and xenoanthropologist in charge of the avatar program.
He bombarded Adela with questions, but she didn't mind. She would totally understand his curiosity - after all, he was meeting someone who was born on Pandora, unlike most of the humans on the base.
"Sorry, if I'm asked too much." He apologises.
"No. It's Ok, Norm. Ask all the questions all you want, doesn't really bother me," Adela reassured him, flashing a warm smile. "If you ever want to know more about anything, just come find me."
Adela turned her attention to Jake, sensing his nervousness, knowing that it was his first time, or anyone's really. She thought of something that will try to ease him or at least try to make conversation with him. "Any training before you came here?" she asked Jake. "Nope," he admitted, wholeheartedly, not breaking his eye contact with Adela, as she slightly nodded her head, as she sighed through her nose.
"My mother can be a bit... prickly at times. Don't take it personally." Jake nodded, looking grateful for the warning. Adela turned to Max, hoping he could provide some information on her father's whereabouts.
"Hey Max," Adela began. "Have you seen my dad around?" He shook his head apologetically. "Sorry, Adela. Haven't seen him today."
She sighed, feeling a pang of disappointment. Finding her parents was always a bit of a scavenger hunt, but she was determined to track them down. Max's response wasn't what Adela was hoping for, but she tried not to let it get her down. Finding her father on this base was always a challenge - he tended to disappear into his work for days on end, but somehow he always make his time for Adela and her mother, despite being divorced and everything. "No worries, Max," Adela said with a shrug. "I'll just have to ask around and track him down."
With a wave goodbye to the newbies, she made her way out of the room and back into the hallway. Adela scanned the crowd, looking for anyone who might have seen her dad recently. As she walked, she couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity in the maze-like corridors of Hell's Gate. This base had been her home for most of her life - no, all of her life, and she knew every nook and cranny like the back of her hand.
Eventually, Adela spotted someone who might have information. It was one of her father's colleagues, Taylor Hawkins. She quickened her pace, calling out to him as she approached. "Aye Hawkins, have you seen my dad around?" Adela asked, hoping he could help her out.
He looked up from his tablet, a small frown on his face. "No, I'm sorry, Adela. I haven't seen him today." She felt a twinge of frustration. "I could pass down the message down to him if you want?" he asked her kindly, but she shook her head. "Nah it's fine."
"Well, ok, I'll let him know that your looking for him then." Adela smiled at him, grateful that he would do that. But also seemed like nobody knew where her father was. Now she was ok to know that Taylor was going to let him know. "Thanks anyways, Taylor," she said with a forced smile. Adela continued down the hallway, knowing she needed to tell her father what she knows about shootings at the school, all those years ago.
