"What are you doing?" Seokjin pouted as he rolled over in his bed, holding the phone close to his ear.

"Why baby?" Taehyung's voice came out gritty, as if he was exhausted.

"It's nothing, but are you okay?" Seokjin changed the subject and threw the comforter over himself to muffle his voice.

"Long day. Stupid clients," Taehyung sighed. "Do you miss me?"

Seokjin rolled his eyes but his cheeks flared up, before mumbling, "No, of course not."

"Hmm... How about you look down your window?"

Seokjin was quick on his feet as he stumbled towards the window and pulled it open even though he knew the winter air would freeze him to death. To his endless delight, there stood Taehyung on the street with one hand in his pocket and the other pressing his phone against his ear; the devil had such a sweet smile on his lips that Seokjin just wanted to jump out and kiss him there and then.

Running back to his bed, Seokjin arranged his pillows and pulled the comforter on them- just a little precaution. He rummaged through his closet to find a single coat and scarf before he carefully climbed out of the window, landing on the lounge chair. He dragged the furniture to the perimeter wall and climbed the chair, before grabbing on the top of the wall and launching himself on the other side; he fell didn't fall gracefully but at least Taehyung was there to help him up.

"Is there really no other way to get out?" Taehyung sighed as he dusted off Seokjin's clothes and took him into his arms.

"I don't know, this is kinda fun," Seokjin replied cheekily.

"One day, you'll break your back, Romeo," Taehyung chuckled before pushing Seokjin away from the mansion.

"How did you know I was missing you?" Seokjin asked as he looped his arm around Taehyung's.

"Maybe I was missing you instead," Taehyung shrugged, averting his eyes to smile shyly.

Seokjin kissed his cheek and asked, "So where are we going?"

"Home."

"Hide your face," Taehyung murmured lowly before pulling up Seokjin's scarf and wrapping his arm tightly around his lover as they navigated through the dimly lit neighbourhood.

Taehyung lived on the second floor of an old walk-up apartment and at the base of the stairs were the tenants of the first landing, smoking and inhaling illegal fumes. When they were about to walk past them, one of them whistled and Seokjin halted to glare at the bastard.

"The slut found himself a slut?" He hollered as his friend howled along and seized up Seokjin up and down.

Taehyung did not utter a single word and before Seokjin could work his tongue, he was pulled away by his boyfriend onto the stairs as the jeering continued behind them.

"Let us have a taste too!" One of their drunken voices sounded.

"We'll give you a puff or-" Taehyung slammed the door shut and exhaled deeply.

"I'm sorry, hyung..." Taehyung mumbled in the dark, his arm still wound around Seokjin's shoulders protectively.

"It's okay, Tae..." Seokjin whispered back and tried to find his lips but Taehyung flipped on the lights, catching the older off guard.

"And I'm sorry for being late, baby. Happy birthday."

Seokjin stood against the door stunned- a small celebration of purple and white fairy lights hanging from the curtains, a plethora of fluffy pillows on a bed in the corner and a little white cake with blue icing and strawberries placed on a small coffee table in the middle of the cozy apartment.
