I woke up with a start, all around me was black, I got up and carefully got up, trying not to wake my sister, Bright. I heard distant pawsteps but kept that out of my mind. She was going to explore, or in her mothers words, go looking for trouble. I poked my head out of the palace and looked around,
"Yes! Finally!" I whispered, getting ready to jump out into the sky.
"Not so fast." A deep voice called from behind me, I hadn't heard that voice often, but I knew who it was.
"Misticnight, how nice of you to join me." I sighed, turning around and sitting down.
"You're not supposed to be leaving without your mothers permission, go back to sleep." I nodded, turned around, then walked into my room, to look outside on the balcony, then jumped up into the air, and started to search. Looking around for one of the Nightmare creatures to see if they actually were real, or another one of mom's fake stories to get us to do as she said. I swooped down when the canopy of the pine forest was becoming too thick for me to see, and decided to search on foot instead. I tucked in my wings and let my spots glow to see better in front of me. The shadows seemed darker in this part of the forest, and the underbrush seemed to grow more, making it hard to try and find something, or someone. I heard a twig snap and whipped around seeing something, I let my spots grow brighter seeing another animal,
"H-hello?" I asked it, hoping it would speak back to me.
"Hello." It responded, sounding unphased, "What's a Nightlight like you doing out here?" It asked staying in the dark of the shadows, trying to stay out of the glow of my pelt.
"I'm wondering if Nightmare Creatures actually are a thing, and why they are attacking us." I explained to the animal.
"They have no control over what they do..." the animal sighed, stepping into the light, her fur was an ashy gray, with bits of sea foam green on the ends of her tail, ears and a bit of her paws, her eyes were a coral pink and she had a scarf around her neck with a light blue gem on it.
"How do you know that? What's your name?" I asked the animal, as questions spun through my head.
"You're the daughter of Queen Glow, now are you?" She asked me, smiling but looking at the ground, "My name is Fading..." She stepped closer to me as I noticed there was also a colorful flower in her fur near her ear.
"Well nice to meet you, Fading, and yes I am the daughter of Queen Glow. But can you tell me how you know that Nightmare Creatures can't control themselves?" I asked Fading.
"Well... don't scream, I'm a Fading Dream, and they usually are also Nightmare Creatures unless they are mixed species... so I'm a Nightmare Creature..." Fading sighed. I gasped in shock, but I tilted my head to the side,
"Can you tell me more?" I asked her. She sighed but nodded, she sat down looking at her paws, avoiding my gaze,
"Whenever we feel an emotion such as Anger, sadness, or we're scared or losing a lot of blood. Nightmare Creatures are like an instinct, one that can cause damage and hurt a lot of innocent animals... most of us don't want to hurt animals, there are so few of us left, we tend to try our best to distance ourselves from the other creatures." Fading sighed, "I suggest you leave now before Glow or Misticnight comes looking for you, I have kept an eye on your species, you are in great danger, tell your mother that you had a vision, a vision of danger and blood, or your kingdom crashing down, don't mention me." Fading sighed, disappearing into the darkness of the forest. I nodded to myself, and ran back the way I had come flying up into the air as soon as the forest thinned out again. We were in more danger than we had thought before...
