RONNIE"Close your legs."
I coughed at Eden's words.
"Excuse me?"
She pointed to my legs, "Close them and cross them. Always sit like a lady."
I made it to Eden's home a little earlier than expected since we got released early from class. I decided to head right over after giving myself a pep talk. The house seemed bigger than it was before. Maybe it was the lack of guest or the sobriety.
I felt like I looked nice. I had on a cream sweater with black capris and black flats. Every strand of my hair was neatly pulled in a tight bun in the back of my head, except for my fine baby hairs. I decided to put on mascara and a shear pink gloss today. Something that says I care, but I don't have to do too much.
Eden wanted to sit in the "Tea Room" as she called it. It was a room that was full of white and pale green colors—a soft color as Karlie would call it. It did seem like a feminine room. It didn't seem like you would find too many men saying this would be their favorite part of the house. It seemed like a "tea" room indeed, I could picture fancy women sitting amongst each other gossiping about the latest.
There was two white couches sitting across from each other and a white coffee table in the middle. The white made me nervous. What if I unconsciously touched my makeup then touched the couch? On top of the coffee table held a vase full of vibrate peonies. On my left side was a charcuterie board filled with a few different fruits, cheeses, crackers, meat, and a miniature selection of nuts.
"Didn't know if you were allergic." Eden commented.
On the right side of me was a pitcher of lemonade and water with two cups resting beside it.
Eden had bid her apologies to me as began texting someone back on her phone. I used it as an opportunity to silence my own.
"I'm usually not that rude." Eden sighed placing her phone beside her.
I waved her off. "I'm twenty. All most of us do is look at a screen."
"Doesn't make it polite." Eden's head tilted to the side as she studied me.
I pursed my lips together before clearing my throat.
You got the sponsorship why are you still nervous? I asked myself.
Maybe Eden was just an intimidating woman. Maybe she was just that type of woman who could read you and see right through you. She was the type of woman that you second guessed yourself around. The type of woman that made you carefully choose your words, and even then you could make an error.
Eden was prestige.
She clasped her hands together. "Down to buisness!" She exclaimed as she crossed one leg over the other and sat straight up.
I mimicked her actions.
"So we have a ball, sort of a cotillion, but not a cotillion...a formal so to speak! You have to participate as a debutant." Eden had lit up.
A ball? Why the fuck did I have to go to a ball?
Thousands of difffeent ways I could word that question flowed through my mind, but none that didn't seem ungrateful.
"A ball?" Was the only thing I could come up with.
I had to make sure I heard her correctly.
