Makoto ended up watching Rui's show, she was really proud of him. Really proud.
After the show, Rui and Makoto hung out for a while. They chatted about things they were doing and stuff that was going on, like the upcoming winter break.
Though Makoto seemed down on the thought of winter break, the reason being because she had to stay home. Usually on winter break she would do her best to stay out of the house or stay in her room doing her work.
What's so bad at being home you ask? Because of Makoto's mom, Chiaki Fukuda. Chiaki is a good mother at heart, though she's barely home and is drunk every day. She cares for Makoto, just doesn't care enough to take responsibility for everything. Everything fell apart after the divorce between Makoto's father and Chiaki.
Makoto had a sister too, she visited a while back when Rui and her weren't as close. Makoto's sister moved with her dad in Inaka so they don't see eachother a lot, Makoto's dad passed a while ago and her mom didn't let Makoto go to his funeral so she didn't attend.
To her, Makoto is fine. It's okay for her to see her mom passed out on the dinner table instead of seeing the meat stew she used to see when she was in elementary, Makoto missed those days. But they were all so foggy and warm, she couldn't remember them.
When Makoto arrived home from hanging out with Rui, she once again saw her mom passed out. Bills spread all over the table and spilt over booze bottles. She sighed quietly before swiftly walking up the stairs.

The next day at school, Makoto was, well Makoto. She was all freshened up and ready for another school day.
It was a normal day, though busy because of her extra-curriculars and class rep things. Which ended up in a fat stack of work piling on her desk.
"Ara ara," Rui chuckled at the sight of Makoto's face planted on her desk. She felt like she was gonna burst from stress. Everyone had already left for the day so it was just Makoto and Rui, they planned on going together somewhere but now it had to be delayed because of her work.
Makoto turned her face to look at him, her cheek squishing onto her desk. "Well don't you look excited to work?" Rui jokes, Makoto groans in response. "..Ugh. I'm so tireeeddd..."
"Do you want help?" Rui asks, "This seems easy, it's just signing.. and stuff." he says, skimming through the papers. He then places a hand on her head and ruffles it, "You can take a break and go home or something, I can stay here and work for you. I have nothing later anyways."
"But-" Makoto got cut off with Rui placing a finger on her lips to shush her, "Rest, you work too hard." She paused then said, "Isn't that a good thing?"
"Working hard is good, but breaks come with working hard." he says, straightening the papers. Makoto pouted, he sighed then passed a quarter of the paper to her. "Do some of it if you feel that bad." he says, smiling.
Makoto began to sign the papers, marking each one diligently and carefully. Rui stared at her, since when did she be this beautiful? Her soft lips, a few beauty marks here and there, her sparkling eyes, her-
"Rui, you're dropping the papers," Makoto pointed at his lap, he turned his head down to see that indeed the papers were falling. He quickly picked them up again and straightened them then again started to mark them.
Makoto zoomed through the papers in an instant, "..Ruuuuiii.." she groaned. "You can go home now, you know?" he chuckled at her.
"I wanna wait for you first," she rests her face in her arms, "Tell me something interesting."
Her head turns to him, waiting for him to say something. He beams up once he thinks of something to say, he starts babbling on something that Makoto can't even begin to understand.
Even though, she listened. And listened quite well actually. "I'm quite talkative, aren't I?" Rui joked, laughing slightly.
"Yeah you are," Makoto mumbled, "I kinda like it though.." Rui's eyes widened, "Like?"
"Mhhm.." she stretched her arms over her head then groaned, "Like as in it's rare to hear you talk a lot, y'know? I like it."
"I like it." those three words repeated in Rui's mind. Like, like? When has anyone really enjoyed his tangents? Sure, WonderShow has listened to his ideas. Though they get tired once in while.
Makoto, she seems like she's ready to listen no matter the subject and loves it.
What is this giddy feeling in Rui's chest?
